Default Wizard magazine's top 100 greatest villains ever list.

The latest issue of Wizard magazine gave a ITHO list of greatest villains of all time from movies, comics, TV, video games and so on. Listed is the name followed by what they appeared on or in, I know that with allot of them it is obvious but I decided to be consistent. Since it covers multiple mediums of entertainment I decided to put it here in General Chat. Anyway here is their list from 100 to 1....

Hannibal Lector shouldn't be on that list. He's more of an antihero than a true villain.

some of them...are just so.....not....

sideshow bob? stewie griffin? amanda woodward? what a bunch of crap.

a century of film and two millenia of literature and we are given THIS?

whats even scarier is a bunch of comic book geeks actually watched melrose place.
many of those picks are pure stupidity...judge doom from roger rabbit? roddy piper? zombies? ugh...seriously why not just add vampires, mummies and wolf men?

gimme a break. why not throw in big bird while we are at it. he always looked like he was jealous of kermit.

heck even grand moff tarkin isnt that great of a pick...he wasnt that interesting of a character. i mean yes he did blow up a planet but other than that he wasnt good for anything except looking old. ask someone about great star wars villains and he probably wont be mentioned all that high. most casual fans i know wouldnt even recognize the name right away.

ok im done venting lol

That list is missing quite a bit. I would have put Skeletor, Unicron, and the Cyberdemon on the list, and removed Stewie Griffin, Gollum (never seemed villainous to me, just insane) and RJ Fletcher. I might also have added Lord Soth from Dragonlance / Ravenloft. And why is Starscream ahead of Megatron? I can understand if they're talking about Generation One, but on the whole I still rank Megs ahead of 'Screamer.

Oh, and anyone else find it funny that it is ANIMATED Brainiac and NOT Comic Brain that gets in to this list?

Does The Shark from Jaws really count as a villain? Yes, he is an antagonist, but he's just an animal. He kills because he is hungry, not because he is evil. Its a Great White's basic instinct to kill when its hungry. The Shark doesn't just wake up in the morning and think, "Hey, I'm feeling evil today, I'm going to go menace some boaters out on the water." That list looks like its based more on popularity than actual villainy.

Thought it is funny that he is up there, will someone tell me why the French Taunter from Monty Python and the Holy Grail up there? (Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries! ) At 83 even! Sephiroth is the only video game villain up there, but he should be a lot higher on the list IMO. There is also the principle from Ferris Buller's Day Off on the list at number 57?! WTF?? Yea, they could have done a little better...

Oh the French Taunter definitely deserves to be there. Have you seen how viciously he taunted poor King Arthur? And PH, in the 4th Jaws movie (I think it was fourth, it was Jaws the Revenge) the shark specifically came after that one family.

Personally, I think there should have been a few more video game villains (maybe Mother Brain or Ganon), and Megatron from Beast Wars should be on there. If he is represented by the Transformers Megatron, then it should be much higher on the list.

I must say, though, the top 15 or so look great to me.

The Wizard editorial staff gave explanations for each villain, why there were there and why they got placed where they did on the countdown, but I didn't feel like typing until my fingers bled.

Angelus would've been a good addition. My reasons? Well, what happens when you take The Joker's soul away and turn him into a Vampire? You get Angelus.

I'd prefer Mayor Wilkins over Faith. But if I had to choose any other Buffy/Angel villains, it would be:

-Dark Willow
-Wolfram & Hart
-Jasmine

The list isn't as bad as I thought it would. Normally, I'd insist on Darkseid receiving a better placement, but he isn't that great anymore. I'm glad Thanos made the list. Personally, I think he should be in the top 20-15.

I don't see Galactus as a villain. He's a force of nature, driven by an insatiable thirst to feed. I feel the same about Godzilla. If any Godzilla incarnation belongs on this list, it's GMK Godzilla. Oh, and where the hell is King Ghidorah? Buu (DragonBall Z) made the list, but Godzilla's arch-nemesis didn't? I declare blasphemy!

Eh, I'm compelled to bold the characters who shouldn't be on that list. Perhaps I'll do so later when I'm up to the task.

Dark Willow was okay, but she just sort of popped up at the end of S6 like an afterthought. Wolfram & Hart was more an idea than an entity. It had a lot of faces -- Lilah, Lindsey, Holland Manners, Eve, the various forms of the White Room, etc. Jasmine is probably the creepiest villain to appear on both shows.

RedSkull is number 21 on the list...

Uh, the fact that he murders people? And the fact that numerous of his victims were people who didn't do anything "wrong" like drugs, premarital sex, etc.

Depending on the character in question the Wizard editorial staff would expound a couple of sentences for some while pumping out a couple of paragraphs for others, anyway here is what they said about Jason...

"More creative and brutal than Michael Myers. Jason's hockey mask-wearing, machete brandishing, teen killing antics are legendary."

That's really all they said for him.
