Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
I've only ever seen a real quick glimps at it once when he use to host the Friday night FX movie on AMC. If only I wasn't lazy and renewed my subscription way back when. Almost as I remember it, Godzilla 1985 with more crocodile skin. The American Godzilla that should have been.

that isnt gryphon...thats some of gryphons minions...in the original script gryphon could absorb other lifeforms and adapt their strengths to himself and these bat creatures retrieved these organisms for him.
that is EXACTLY what the american godzilla should have been like

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
Are you sure that's a probe bat?
I don't think so, it's got too many chimeric features. The probe bats were created purely out of bat DNA, wheras The Gryphon was generate dthrough puma, human, snake, cow, bat and I forget what all else DNA. Now admittedly, this creature has no puma features but then again, some versions lack cow or human features. I'm not really sure anymore. It might be a probe bat but the probe bats were the ones who brought the mother probe the other animals so it doesn't seem right.
EDIT: Ok, so they are probe bats.....weird....

There's also some pics floating out there of the Gryphon maquette itself, but nothing nearly as good as the whopping above pics.

I know, I just zoomed in on the image and read that they're probe bats.
It still doesn't seem right...

Ah... okay. That makes a little more sense, then. I've seen a pic of the Gryphon maquette (though it wasnt as clear as those) and it looked a lot different.

Having just seen that damn iguana on the damn Doritos ad, this is even more poignant for me.

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
On the other hand, if G,98 WAS Godzilla, it might also have been the very last Godzilla film...

more likely than not if it featured the above godzilla and had better actors and story which we know it had two out of the three...it most likely would have seen sequels. i dont believe this would have ended the series by a long shot...toho themselves may not have made one for a bit longer but i think they would have made one in 2004 regardless

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
Bio, Toho said themselves that after the American film(s) they would start making films around '04.

Odd...none of my sources mention anything about this...
Oh well, the point is, if GINO hadn't appauled fans so badly, we probably wouldn't have any of the millenium series. Now personally, I see that as a bad thing.
Oh well, there's always the chance that this or more likely, a similar idea could be taken up by someone else in the distant future. Once everyone can get over the Zilla episode.
If someone from KP hasn't at least attempted to make another american G-film in the next 50 or so years, then mayble I'll reconsider my attitude.

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
Wene I saw those in that G-fan, I lossed it. That was probably the coolest design for Godzilla I've seen. Yes, that wierd looking creature is the bat prob. Apparently, there was supposed to be a bunch of them, so imagine that in a movie! NASTY! I don't remember reading the part in the script were Godzilla fights them, so my guess is that he only fights the military(Hopefully not running from them!), and the gryphon. I have seen a pic of the Gryphon maquette, and If I see it again, I might post it here. Here are the same pix, but cropped from the magazine article, and enhanced a bit.

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
Godzilla only battles the Navy in San Fransisco, and then battles the Gryphon in New York City. Yup, only two battles. But its a pretty basic story, no more basic than GINO was.

Not to mention, much better.
As most everyone's already said; that's what the American Godzilla should have been.

Re: Stan Winston's Godzilla Maquettes
OOH! THATS LIKE the bat from the dark horse comics.... bagorah or some such.... Stan Wenston is the f-ing man!
That godzilla is much cooler than GINO... like a modified trex or allosaurus... the upright posture suggest it's not the creatures natural stance, if it were to drop to all 4's you'd really be in some f-ing trouble... damn... too bad it never was....hope stan got paid for that awesome work...
