Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
I have diverted from kaiju related stories for the moment to write this little story about Belvera, and her past, and how she is now. It is particularly sad and I nearly cried when writing it lol. I hope you like it.
Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
by: EM
Many thousands of years ago, the Cosmos race formed their most genius plan for the future of the planet Earth, which was on the very top of their minds. The Queen of the Cosmos, ordered the creation of four avatars, who were going to be made to interact with the benevolent Goddess, Mothra, for future peoples who were destined to live upon the Earth’s surface. After great turmoil and arguing, four perfect beings were created, and named the Elias. Each one of the tiny women possessed magical and mental powers, and also carried a certain trait that made the ultimate power when combined. The eldest of all the sisters was Belvera, the Elia of courage. Second eldest was Moll, the bearer of wisdom and knowledge. The third was Lyra, the Elia of truth, and finally, Lora, the Elia of love. All four of these traits put together made the Elias a very powerful group, and they learned to love, protect, respect, and honor their Goddess, Mothra.
As countless years passed, the Elias remained together and in a collect mind, yet having separate personalities, which defined their characters very uniquely. While Moll and Lora generally were more close to one and other, Belvera and Lyra were very close to each other. It was as if heaven was setting in for the world, everything was perfect, nothing was going wrong at all whatsoever. Peacefully, all four Elias sat and watched the beautiful sun set on what remained of the Cosmos civilization, Infant Island. After many years of saving the world, it was relaxing to just sit back and enjoy things peacefully.
“It is so beautiful isn’t it, Belvera?” said Lyra gleefully as she clung to her elder sister.
Belvera smiled and nodded, and also hugged her little sister. Moll and Lora too seemed very enamored by the beauty of the sun set. Unfortunately, Belvera didn’t seem able to enjoy the gorgeous sun setting like her sisters, and this grew on her as a depressing feeling. Lyra, as well as her other sisters could not help but to notice Belvera’s odd behavior. The courageous fairy could not help her feelings nevertheless, she felt low, and inferior to her other sisters that it nearly brought tears to her eyes.
“Belvera, what’s the matter?” asked Lora as she went to her sister.
“Nothing, I’m fine….” she retorted.
“You seem saddened.” inserted Moll.
“Tell us the truth.” Lyra murmured as she put her hand on Belvera’s shoulder.
Belvera’s heart stopped for a moment and remembered Lyra’s unique ability to detect if someone was lying or not. She felt really bad that she lied to the sister that looked up to her so much, so she repented.
“I just feel so unworthy of the powers that I have…you three are much better suited to be the avatars for Mothra than I.” Belvera stammered as she rubbed her arm sadly. Lyra wrapped her arm around her sister and hugged her.
“Nonsense, you are perfect just the way you are.” she happily assured.
“Lyra’s right,” stated Moll, “you were created with us, therefore you are worthy of your powers. You are unique, and a courageous woman, and our elder sister. Do not be hard on yourself.”
“But…I just feel worthless, I don’t enjoy the same things you do.” the darker fairy responded.
“Yes you can, you are part of the Elias.” stated Lora.
Belvera turned and faced her sisters, with tears streaking in her eyes and down her soft cheeks. She was so grateful for her sisters’ support of her, she did not know what she’d do with out them. Finally, Belvera turned and found Lyra gazing deep into her eyes lovingly.
“No matter what happens Belvera, I will always love you. You stood by me through everything, helping me to tone my powers. You are a kind and confident sister, the Elias would not be the same with out you.” Lyra explained as she again hugged Belvera.
“You are unique, and a major part of this quartet, and we love you as well.” Moll and Lora said in unison.
“We all have been through so much together, Belvera. Do not give in now, you are the Elia of courage, it is your unique power, and you shall always possess it.”
Belvera had tears cascading down her cheeks by now as she gazed at the setting sun. It was as if, for a moment, she could finally see it’s immense beauty and glory, and for that, she thanks her sisters. She closed her eyes and embraced the moment, hoping that it would never pass by. Together, the four sisters happily stood and watched the amazing phenomenon take place.
That night, Belvera dreamed of her sisters, mainly Lyra, and her wonderful kindness. She was the most kindred and wonderful person Belvera had ever met. She was finally happy, her days of sadness and sorrow were now over. It was as if she did not understand her sister until that evening at the sunset, she regretted not knowing of this until now. Of course, seeing Belvera like this just tickled Moll, Lora, and Lyra. They have never seen the darker fairy this happy and giddy.
As the night pressed on, things began to get darker, and darker. Eventually, the grounds in Mothra’s legendary cavern began to shake furiously. An earthquake rocked the general area around Infant Island, making the very land treacherous to stand upon.
“An earthquake!” cried Lora as she got up and ran to Moll’s protective side. All through this intense shaking, Belvera woke up, and was dazed beyond belief.
“Belvera, there’s an earthquake, we must find cover!” Lyra cried as she nudged her older sister. Belvera tried to get to her feet, but she was still only half awake. Moll and Lora attempted to run to aid them, but the enormous tectonic force threw them onto the cavern floor.
Slowly, Lyra drug Belvera to their other sisters, however, more trouble was at hand. Lyra glanced up toward the ceiling, and a huge rock was dislodged from its place, and was tumbling down toward Belvera, who had fallen out of Lyra’s grasp. The frightened fairy glanced at the rock, back at the fallen Moll and Lora, then at Belvera with tears in her eyes. “Good bye my sisters….” she whispered, right before jumping and colliding into Belvera, knocking her out of the rock’s furious path.
Several minutes later, Belvera woke up, only to find Moll and Lora smiling, and gazing into her eyes.
“Are you okay?” asked Moll as she helped Belvera back onto her feet.
“Yeah.” she muttered.
Something was wrong though, Lyra was not with Moll and Lora. Belvera glanced at Lora, who began to sob as she pointed over toward a pile of debris, which buried the innocent Lyra. She could see the tiny fairy’s tiny hand protruding from the pile of debris. Belvera grabbed her heart and began to choke up uneasily as she saw this horrific sight.
“Lyra!” she cried, finally running over to the pile of rocks. With all her strength the priestess of courage threw the rocks off from her sister, with the help of Moll and Lora at her side. After the rocks were removed, Lyra’s faint eyes opened and she tried to smile as she caught a glimpse of Belvera.
“You’re…okay.” she gasped with relief. Belvera knelt in the dust that was strewn everywhere, and held Lyra’s hand, she could feel the life with in her dwindling rapidly.
“Lyra, you are going to be okay, just a few bumps and bruises.” muttered Belvera, attempting to keep the real truth of Lyra’s condition away from her.
“No,” muttered the injured priestess, “I am dying, you do not need to hide it from me.”
“You are not dying!” cried Belvera as she held Lyra’s hand firmly. Tears began to gather in the fairy’s eyes, and she could feel the very essence of Lyra’s mind and spirit leaving her. It was overwhelming, mostly to Belvera since she was so close to her.
“…Don’t leave me alone, please!” she wept.
“Belvera,” Lyra breathed harshly as she began to close in on death, “you know I love you, even when I die I shall always be with you, forever. You are my sister, and we are all linked. Moll, Lora, I love you both too.”
The tiny fairy reached out her other hand for Lora and Moll to take before she passed on. Lora too, eventually broke down and sobbed, Moll was nearly on the verge but managed to keep her mind clear. Finally, Lyra turned back to Belvera and smiled with what energy she had left in her body.
“I…love…you…sister.” she gasped. Finally, Lyra’s eyes closed and her body began to fade into crystal. Before she did, Belvera grabbed the fairy’s pendant of truth and sword, attempting to preserve something of her sister. Eventually, Lyra’s body faded into an aura of energy, which sparkled and merged into the Mothra egg that sat upon the stone shrine in the cavern. A void of quiet and sentiment was left remaining in the place. Belvera fell to her knees and buried her face in her hands. Moll and Lora were absolutely crushed as well, but they could not help but to feel Belvera’s new state of mind. As Lyra’s link to Belvera disappeared, the priestess slowly lost her mind.
“Belvera!” Moll and Lora cried.
As the dark priestess raised her head with tears in her eyes, a mysterious darkness also lurked in them as well. Here it began, the slow torture of Belvera’s mind from the loss of her beloved sister, Lyra. Moll and Lora were powerless to help Belvera mend her mind, for she became rebellious and retributional against the Earth. It was the dawn of a new life, a depressing life that Belvera slowly began to live for countless years. Despite this new way of living, Belvera deep down remembered Lyra and her kindness. She also remembered Moll and Lora’s love for her, which was probably the only thing left that kept her from going into absolute insanity…….

Re: Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
That honestly made me choke up. Poor Belvera.
You know, they say twins share a special bond. I can't imagine how terrible the loss must feel when that link is severed by death like that. *sniffs*
Lyra's energy went to Mothra's egg...so maybe Belvera sees an echo of her sister in Mothra's eyes now and that is what keeps her sane. That hope is what adds another chord to the end of the story. Just the kind of ending I love.

Yeah, and remember Lyra said that she'd always be with her too. I wrote another story awhile back called Eternal Midnight, where this girl is born half Elias/ half human. She was named Lyra also, so that is where I derived her name.
It was a terrible loss for Belvera, and is the main reason why in the ROM Trilogy she is evil 75% of the time.
Btw, thank you Cyndi.

I hope you do, the Elias IMO are the most fascinating incarnations of Mothra's fairies.

Re: Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
It’s a good story. I always wondered why Belvera turned to the dark side and this is an interesting idea why. We always remember Mothra’s handmaidens as twins mentally linked to the point that we wonder if they are separate beings at all; they are indeed a duo in RoM even when they are clearly not psychic twins and are separate beings… And that gets you to wondering about Belvera, instead of being the wicked older sister, she went mad for the loss of her psychic twin. The loss of a sibling is traumatic, the loss of a psychic sibling doubly so, I imagine it would be the loss of your soul.
There are a few weak points such as spelling heaven as haven and poor grammar. (At one point you say that such and such defined Belvera and Lyra exponentially; exponential is not an adjective but a verb describing a rapid increase.) There is also another thing; it is slightly unbelievable that Belvera would be such a sound sleeper as to ignore rock falls and earthquakes. This could be slightly amended by saying that Belvera was knocked unconscious early on.
But regardless of such minutia, this is still a good story, and you are still a good author. See’ya next time Eternal Mothra.

Well I did write this at 1 oclock in the morning, so I guess sleep deprivation had something to do with it, and I proof read it once, which probably was a bad idea on my part. I'm glad you liked it though, and thank you for the constructive critisism.

Re: Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
OMG! It was so sad! But it does make a lot of sense! You have such a mind for coming up with creative stories such as this. I almost cried when I read it, and you know what it takes to make me cry! Good job!

Re: Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
Maybe, also this story does make alot of sence, explianing why belvera was like that in ROM, also where did you get the idea that there was a fourth one.

I got the idea from thinking how Belvera was evil at first in the ROM Trilogy, and I wanted to make losing Lyra be the cause of it. Because the Elias are psychically linked, for Belvera to lose the closest one to her would be mind boggling.

Re: Belvera and Lyra: The Forgotten Story
Like I said it made alot of sence, I now guess that hte idea hitted you like a rock, make that a big rock in the head.
I also just remembered that the word 'mind boggling' is from THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.
