I gave it a 9, though I think my actual rating would be more like a 9.5. Not an entirely perfect film, but it is one of my all time favorites. It takes a little while to get going (often times to the annoyance of friends I've shown the film to), but the characters are interesting enough to pull this movie through, and when Godzilla does show up, the movie manages to keep a fast pace.

And, I've said it before, and I'll say it again here. This movie has the most realistic special effects of any G film thus far. Godzilla and Biollante actually look like living, breathing creatures, rivaling the realism of even the best American monster movies.

Another good thing about this movie is that it is so emotional all the way through. I am one who really gets into movies emotionally lol (don't laugh guys). When Erika died, I nearly cried, it was so sad. I also love how Biollante has personalities of a rose, human, and Godzilla in her, she is such a unique character, I LOVE BIOLLANTE! lol

I have it a 10. I seriously can't think of anything wrong this movie, it seemed perfect to me lol. It was a little slow in the beginning, but it picks up after a while.

An 8 is what I gave it. It was LONG and Biollante has a huge gap between appearences. Not the entire movie was very enteraining either, but story wise it was great and Biollante looked awesome. Their is a lot of good in this movie.

Yeah, probably the only thing I do not like is the extended gap between Bio's appearences.

I do love Miki Saegusa's character in this movie though, probably one of my favorite roles of hers.

I'd give it a 9. Several have already commented on how good Biollante looks. I thought they borrowed heavily from this movie later on when they made G2k.

I also liked Miki's character. Colonel Gondo as well.

On the negative side, I just have the VHS dubbed, & the "Godziller" is annoying- but funny.

it takes soo long to get to the good stuff... some pretty interesting things go on however, the dubbing is horrid! the only dubbing that is worst is Godzilla vs King Ghiddorah (91) its pratically unbareable, that one guy from the future that sounds like larry of the 3 stooges almost makes it worth listening to...almost...

I never even consider the dubbed versions of the movies the true versions anyway, so giving it a low rating because of the dubbing is just plain odd.

the only version i could find. none of my resources at the time i got it (like 4 or 5 years ago)had the japaneese version, only the dubbed version. I havent looked in a while but is it out in the new rash of old g-flicks available?

i still stand by my rating, as a follow up to G85 its kinda poor, shot too dark and just too damn long...there are much better Hesai flicks out there...
that doesn't take away from biolantee being one of the most creative creatures developed for the series, but there are just tooo many overbaring issues with the film for me to rate it above a 5...

The movie in relation to the rest of the Heisei series is not that long. I always thought G84 was always boring lol.

Question. Did you watch the Japanese version? If not then you cannot say you saw the movie.

But a FIVE? That is really low for what is one of the better Heisei movies. When you got crap fests like Battle for Earth, Space Godzilla, and Mecha-Godzilla 2; Biollante comes off as the lesser of the evils. Unless of course you give the others like 2's or 3's.

Funny you say that...
I thought Battle for Earth offered more in the way of action & humor, yeah sure its another flick including mothra but with battera added and some pretty cool scenes (the underwater battle is great) + a solid (if not fully fleshed out) story, not to mention Big G doing quite a number on Battera (the only bloody kill in the hesai series)...that movie is over all a more solid Godzilla adventure than Biolantee is. BfE is a solid 7 1/2, could be better and they have one too many hokey shots with the battera larva sitting around in front of a blue screen that prevents it from being a solid 8

As for G vs MG2 (92)
thats the best the Hesai era has to offer...altho Goji is technically the bad guy...you not only feel for him but revel in the trimuph of "life over artifical life" (ok thats the worst line ever but you get the point). It also sports some of the best effects of the G series @ that time (baby g was flippin fantastic) not only that you get a look at some G anatomy 2 brains who knew? a truly solid flick, story is on point, effects rarely dissapoint and as an added bonus you get some rodan action, altho most of it was lame, he does put on a good show. Just how a g flick shoud be, action packed, a little silly, and a serious point mixed in with some nifty effects and a reasonably solid story that moves along at a decent pace. That flick gets a 9 from me....

An 8 for BFE? Not even remotely close to an 8. The whole "Indiana Jones" rip was some of the worst the Heisei series has to offer and the acting in the film is simply horrible beyond belief. Yes Battra was cool, but the effects were very poor, especially for both Battra and Mothra in both forms. The story is a complete mess with so many holes in it Godzilla could fall right through them. This movie is not even close to an 8 by any respectable rating system.

This is the "Best" the Heisei series has to offer? The story sucked, it was a complete mess of bad concepts and plot devices. Once again the acting was horrible to the point it is almost painful to watch. MG/SMG's design was completely uninspired especially when compared to almost all the other concept designs they had to choose from. Rodan was VERY poorly executed, though he did look decent but was simply to stiff to do anything useful with. Baby G like Rodan looked decent but they did stupid things which totally took away the fantasy and made you see it as a movie prop, like eating the rose, completely unbelieveable scene. The effects were VERY lacking in this film and it's simply another "let's give Godzilla a plot device so he can win again" movie, which seriously takes away from the story and cheapens the character. Like BFE, this movie doesn't even rate close to a 9 on any respectable movie rating system.

These two movies easily rank at the bottom of the Heisei Series along with GvSG.

Compared to the rest of the Heisei series, the story is a masterpiece, and I didn't see any plot holes. Plus, the musical score in the movie is one of the best in the Heisei series as well.

I have not yet seen Godzilla vs. Biollante (Planning on watching it sometime, however), but I do think that TBFE Deserves a good rating, at least between a 7 and an 8. (Reading previous posts). I, personally, like the music that is in it as well as some of the plot. Battra was a cool character. Given, some things could have been better, but isn't that the way it is in any movie? Nothings perfect... There is always room for improvement on anything.
