Saddam Hussein is gone.
He was hung on the gallows at 6 a.m. Baghdad time, 7 pm pacific time. It's probably still all over the news.
Funny how I can't bring myself to celebrate. As miserable and cruel a man he was, it's still a human life lost. But I AM happy for the people who are relieved that he's gone.

That's okay, I'll be happy for you. Good riddance to that scum.

Look at the numbers for the people he killed/tortured, then you might feel a bit more inclined to celebrate...

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
I'm glad those he killed now have justice in his death. I just hate that we have to resort to killing. I agree that he did deserve it, but that still doesn't make him any less human.
Like I said to EM in a chat we're having, I had a vision of a man hanging from a noose at the exact moment Saddam was executed, so I think part of me is just majorly creeped out by it all.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
Huh? I thought he still had 30 days left?
EDIT: Nope, guess I was wrong, it's the 30 days that expired. It's almost hard to believe he's dead. Not that I want him alive... but it just feels so weird that he's finally been dispensed with. The same weird feeling I'll get when Osama kicks the bucket.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
No, it had to happen within 30 days. It wasn't scheduled so that he had 30 days left.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
It's all over the news now. IMO the ******* is dead and getting boned by the devil and Hitler. I see no remorse in saying sick things about people like him, he's done worse than saying things.
I saw a documentary that said he, Hitler, Stalin, and those like them became as nasty as they were from abusive childhoods by their stepfather or fathers. That was the cause of their brutal history.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
Nothing wrong with hanging. For all the **** he's pulled in his miserable life, Saddam deserves... excuse me, deserved to suffocate. Assuming his neck didn't instantly snap, which would be a cop out.

Yeah, the screw up is you just put the guy in a sleeper hold and he'll wake up hours later. Decapitating him would have been better.

Well the Middle east can wipe themselves out as far as I'm concerned that seems to be where all the problems are coming from.

Not from that scum, he's as despised by those wack-jobs even more than we are. If it was Osama, then you'd be right, but there aren't too many people who are going to be bent out of shape that Saddam's gone. Not until several decades pass and folks forget what a stupid, brutal moron he was. Rather like folks who emulate Hitler these days...

Eh, Saddam still has followers. The fact he died by hanging...makes for great propaganda. "He died fighting the Western Infidels". Thus...well, he'll become like "The Alamo" for the US.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
I gotta agree with Morgoth here. Especially because he didn't die "fighting western infidels." He hid in a hole, got caught, tried in his own country, then was hung. And who's going to champion him? Clearly not the Shiite, and I doubt the Sunnis want to be associated with him.

How does death by hanging equal western infidels? That's how they execute people in Islamic countries!!! Unless you're a woman, then they stone you. If he'd gone to the gas chamber or some such silliness, then you'd have a case, but he wasn't. He was offed in tried and true Moslem fashion.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
Well, now that the dawn is new, I think that it is a great thing. One less of them.
And I do kinda agree with Doc. If there was another mass conflict, it could possibly solve some problems.
Though, if the whole ME did start fighting each other like they want to without UN or US meddling, that would make for some great television.

Re: Saddam Hussein is gone.
The fact that his death comes at a time when Iraq is torn between civil war, terrorism, and enforced diplomacy really makes it all seem insignificant if you ask me. But that's just my opinion.

What I'm seeing is sure and SWIFT justice myself. Look how long convicted murderers sentenced to die in the U.S. draw out their continued existance.
