Ultra Galaxy Legends The Movie (2009)
Heroic TV Monster Gomora Goes to the Big Screen, in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie!
Forget Transformers 2 (though I do love Soundwave and excited for that villain's return), because the good folks at Tsuburaya Productions, home of the ongoing Ultraman franchise, and well over 4000 related monsters, has something really special in store for us come December!
In the last three years or so, the well-known horned dinosaur kaiju Gomora, the so-called Prince of the Monsters, has inexplicably become one of the poster heroes of the long running Ultraman franchise, with short-run, but successful series like Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle, its sequel Never Ending Battle, and various spin-offs like video games and the upcoming PBS style Ultra Galaxy Exercise.
http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2...ttle-exercise/
Well, now Gomora, along with more traditional Ultra heroes like Mebius, Ultraseven, and the original Ultraman himself, are all to meet up in a new film entitled:
MEGA MONSTER BATTLE: ULTRA GALAXY LEGEND THE MOVIE
Thanks to the great popularity of Ultra Galaxy and the blockbuster success of last year's film The Super 8 Ultra Brothers, Tsuburaya's gearing up for yet another multi-giant action flick, that makes Godzilla: Final Wars feel like the definition of sanity!
The Land of Light (AKA Nebula M78), home world of the Ultra beings, is under attack by the truly evil looking villain Ultraman Belial, who seeks the power of the Giga Battlenizer, which will unleash an army of one-hundred giant monsters!
Now Gomora, his trainer and half-human friend Rei, and alien giants Ultraman, Ultraseven and Ultraman Mebuis must join forces against the new threat. You can check the main site for the movie here, which is in the early stages of updates:
http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/ultra-legend/
Plus James Billard has uploaded an article at Sci-Fi Japan, with correct information and a way better plot synopsis:
http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2...nds-the-movie/
More surprisingly, this movie is being directed by Koichi Sakamoto; a Japanese veteran and executive producer of the American Power Rangers franchise, starting with Power Rangers In Space and all the way to the current series Power Rangers RPM.
This may sound like bad news to most fans, but Koichi has proven to be a great producer and director of action sequences, featuring real stunt work which I must admit, puts the Super Sentai versions of Power Rangers to shame. Plus considering episodes like Countdown to Destruction, Forever Red, and Now the Final Fury, I can't think of anyone more suited to bringing one-hundred monsters on the same battlefield...if that at all happens of course.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koichi_Sakamoto
Now my thoughts on all this...FREAKING AWESOME!!!
And here's the Desumacchi thread on Gomora, with tons of YouTube links:

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
Evil Ultraman Belial... Another kaiju entity named after a Biblical demon (yes, I am mentioning Legion from G2). Can this guy cause as much hell?
Anywho, this army of 100 monsters is sure to make this thing more epic than any other kaiju film (that is if it is done right).

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
Now this sounds fun. I really dig that they're using "Gomora" in a leading role. It's nice to see that kaiju films are still hanging in there. I'm aso glad to see "Ultra-Man" still going so strong in Japan. Now will anyone ever release his latest theatrical movies on region-1 discs here? I really dig "Ultra-Man" but I grew up more of a fan of "Spectre-Man" and "Space Giants".....those were my heroes. Do you guys think they'll ever revive those characters?? I'd absolutely love to see that!

...That is cool.
I don't care what he's compared to, Belial looks sweet.

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
One minor--but important-- correction to Enshohma's post: The ULTRA GALAXY movie article that is now on SciFi Japan was researched, translated, and written solely by Jim Ballard. I had nothing to do with it and don't want to take any undeserved credit for Jim's great work.
This sounds like a fun film. I've enjoyed ULTRA GALAXY, and the idea of Ultraman and Gomora possibly working together is intriguing.

Yea, might as well say something: Gomora is the only reason I even watch what Ultraman I do!
Hope he gets lots of action here. He is the prince afterall...

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
A very rough teaser trailer has been made, and although the CGI is also 'rough' (again, one of those Japanese teasers made well before the film's actual production), the new design for Nebula M78 / The Land of Light is much more futuristic then seen in previous visits.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jihb2Av9BWo
And these are the monster and alien characters confirmed thus far, for future reference:
1-Gomora
2-Ultraman
3-Ultra Seven
4-Reimon
5-Ultraman Mebius
6-Ultraman Belial
7-Ultraman Ace
8-Ultraman Taro
9-Zoffy (briefly served as the armor-clad hero Andro Melos)
10-Ultraman Hikari (AKA Ultraman Light)
11-Ultraman King
12-Father of Ultra
13-Mother of Ultra
14-Ultraman Leo
15-Astra (Leo's younger brother)
16-Ultraman 80
17-Yullian ('Princess of the Ultrans')
18-Ultraman Neos
19-Ultra Seven 21
20-Ultraman Boy
21-Ultraman Jack

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
Alot of CGI. Looks good, though I love it that Gomora gets the first shot in the trailer. I am going to try to get some Gomora figures...

As for the monsters...
Some of the suits look fantastic while others look terrible, that Black King is hideous looking, I prefer the showa version to that.

Personally, except for the eyes and teeth, it's pretty much Black King like I remember him.

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
I love the new Bemular suit; true to the original design, but minus the obvious low-budget, thin-rubber nature from his first appearance. Plus his face is less like a confused frog then it is the mean criminal kaiju that he's supposed to be.
I've known about Agira for a while, but wanted to hold off on mentioning him (her?) because those live promotional events for can be quite misleading (still waiting for Geronimon and Baltan in Ultra Galaxy BTW).
For those who don't know, Aigira is the often overlooked third member of Ultraseven's Capsule Monsters, with a body similar to a tropical lizard and a head like that of a triceratops...minus two horns.

Agira isn't as overlooked when he's compared to Sevengar from Leo.

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
That looks like Ultrawoman 'Beth' from Hanna Barbera's 'Ultraman The Adventure Begins' in the top left of AH's first link.
Interesting.
And just to reiterate, WOOT! Ultraman Great is back!

Re: Ultra Galaxy The Movie
I thought that was Mother of Ultra, but that's part of the reason we discuss this stuff, to correct ourselves. Good eye, Mecha74.
Edit: This is just for the arcade game, but we could have a few more potential monsters:

The EX Bakushimu and EX Zetton look really friggin cool, plus I plike the new Mebius design.

^Thanks AH, It's definitely just a guess on my part, but it sure looks like her.
EX Zetton huh, I was about to say that the thing in the card on the bottom of your link sorta looks like an altered Zetton, if the blurred swiping claw wasn't in the way we would be able to see it better obviously.

Even if that's so he should make some sort of come back. Come to think of it, you think Zearth's capsule monsters will also return?
