Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
My impressions of "Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters" issue #4 ---- I thought it was a pretty good issue, I particularly like the story that runs through the issue about a Medal of Honor awarded Soldier who comes to believe that the culture he's come home to was not worth the sacrifices he's made, which causes a good man to make a very dark decision. Our favorite Demented French Twins take their new pal Battra to Paris. The President Ogden character appears but is wisely kept in the background. But Best of all.....WE GOT US A MONSTER FIGHT STARTING !!!!! Godzilla comes ashore and heads to LA and faces off with a classic Kaiju.....but not the one you think. I know comic covers as just come ons for the story inside but I think IDW needs to sinc up the art with which Kaiju appear in the book, two versions of this issues covers are pretty much False Advertising. Despite this though a good issue. Any thoughts?

I wish I had a Battra of my own that I could park on the Eiffle Tower.

IDW got a new Mini-series coming out, GODZILLA LEGENDS!
the cover for the first issue:

Also, I've seen a pereview of issue 5, I'm not sure if I like the new artist.
Here's what I mean:

Rodan looks short of funky

I agree. Not enough detail and the style looks too flat for my taste.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Well, the new artwork is dreck, but I'm loving where the story is going. The political humor has died down, and we're seeing some more monster action. And I loved Girly Yaya's fate

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
]Hey sorry It took so long to get this out, had some computer problems. #5 was a bit of a come down from the previous issue, sadly the fight between Godzilla and Anguirus is done in the opening pages. Rodan puts in more of an appearance this issue, they are drawing him with a little tail, not sure I like it. Presedent Ogden Finally makes a decision....it's a bad one. The French Twins come back from their shopping trip to the Louvre to find that Battra has a surprise for them. Girly Ya Ya sets foot in the book for the last time, Interestingly a joke at her expense suggests that her character was originally going to be Lady Gaga ( it's a Funny joke) I wasn't that impressed with the new artwork, many of the humans looked like characetures at times. But a fun issue over all--

The miniseries will be separate story one-shots by artists. Matt Frank is only doing one issue.

The latest Kingdom of Monsters was...not wonderful.
Everything and everyone was badly drawn, though I did enjoy the fact that Girly Yaya got squished.

Yeah... I cant help but agree. I'm glued to Gangsters and Goliaths. If you arent impressed with KOM, get on board GGG. Its superior in every way - art, story, character, kaiju action, etc. Its the best IDW has put out so far. Here's to hoping "Godzilla: Legends" will give us some fantastic one-shots!

I've just read issus 5 and 6. The art is better than I throght it would be, but still a bit funky at times. the story line about the solider and the little girl is nothing but brillent.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Impressions of "Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters" Issue #6: Sorry I took so long to write this but some of those I've posted this for have said that they often haven't read issue yet so I took some time to put it out plus I had other things come up. I was a bit disappointed with issue #6 not because the story idea was bad but because rather than properly explore the interesting concept of the US trying to get out of it's economic woes by creating a "super weapon" to sell to the world, taking what might have been a good 3 or 4 issue story that also could have introduced some more kaiju as well, was instead burned off in an awkwardly written single issue which ends by stealing an element from one of the more recent G-Films with little ryme or reason as to why this happens. The writers seem to want to burn through this series to get to the monster quickly rather than take time to develope a good story and at times it comes off like a kid banging his Bandi figures together. I felt strongly enough about it that I E-mailed their letters section, hopfully it'll make a difference (not holding my breath) Any thoughts?

I've just read Issue 8 kingdom of monsters, and i got to say that I don't like Victor Santos's artwork. His art is ok at best, the comic needs a much better artist.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Well, the artwork still isn't as bad as the JP comics. If anything could be said in IDW's favor, their comics certainly aren't like the series we've had prior. That said, I feel incredibly detached from the monster action. Something about the way it's drawn just makes it so that it's not all that interesting to look at. I like what they're doing with the mini-series, though. Godzilla's the kind of character that is just open to all sorts of interpretation, which makes the comics a great medium for him. I enjoyed Gangsters and Goliaths and can't wait for Godzilla: Legends. Btw, anyone else excited Bob Eggleton and Art Adams are doing Godzilla covers again?

Will in the frist lot of JP comics had some of the worst art I've ever seen. I've been reading the thrid mini-series, Dangerous Games has much, much, much better art.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
I confess, I haven't looked into Dangerous Games. After Redemption (yeah, right) I had my hopes, but then Devils of the Desert got such bad reviews I thought IDW just didn't care. Hmmm. . . Greg Bear? So IDW finally decided to take their licensing of JP seriously? Just found a page preview. MUCH BETTER. Thanks for letting me know.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Impressions of "Godzilla: Legends" Issue #1.....Just GET IT!!! it's the best Kaiju comic IDW has put out thus far. Nice art work and a Fun story that pays tribute to one of our favorite Kaiju. There are three covers the Art Adams one is my favorite. let's hope IDW keeps up this quality of work for not only this series but puts it toward "Kingdom of Monsters" as well

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Impressions of "Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters" issues #7 and #8--- While I liked #7 better that the previous issue once again a major plot developement that should been built up to is just burned off in 6 pages . There is a fun if breif Kaiju fight and the French Twins make a discovery about their Powers, this story seems to be taking the proper time to develope itself The story with Woods and the Little girl continues, Woods seems to have pretty much scraped off the rest of humanity in favor of his little companion. --- Issue #8 "Concludes" the story begun in the previous issue rather than let it develope into the far larger story it might have been. That said Godzilla does have himself a Good fight This is intercut with the Woods and little Girl story continues and provides a nice contrast to the kaiju action and ends with them making their own discovery. All in all I liked both issues, just wish they'd pace the series better. This was the last issue with Eric Powell and Tracy Marsh writing so it will be interesting to see where the new writers take the series. Any thoughts

I think the writer remembered the Gamera series from his childhood and little else.

I thought this issue was a bit of a let down after Legends #1 It had an interesting idea about this kid trying manipulate both his Father and Rodan to get what he wants but they try to through in one too many twists into the ending and turn the kid into a mere Short-Cap-Brat I will say that though I am not a big fan of the Heisie Era Rodan design they do draw him well in this issue. Hope they do better next issue.

Re: New Official Godzilla Comic
Saw something a little disturbing, I got my Diamond Distributors Previews today from my comic shop, which allows me to order comics ahead for March and I noticed that IDW was only offering "Godzilla Legends #5" but No "Kingdom of Monsters" Now I am hoping that this is either an oversight by Diamond (they did offer Fangoria for about two ofr three issues but the magazines did come in ) or that IDW is merely taking a breather in the series between story arcs. If anyone has any info please share

The series is ending but not being back-burnered in any way! The sequel is coming in May with a new creative team, plus there are some big miniseries (wait, is that an oxymoron, "big mini"?) coming and more. Lots of G (and company) to come in 2012 and beyond!
|
so, Kingdom of monsters is ending, but there still gonna do Godzilla comics.
