I just found out today that my all-time favorite anime, Iria: Zeiram, was re-released on DVD with actual features no more than two months ago! This is great news because the original DVD had no extras at all aside from the fact you could watch it dubbed or subbed. Iria was the first anime I ever saw and I’ve loved it ever since.
It’s a wonderful little gem about a bounty hunter out for revenge against the monster, Zeiram, who killed her brother. The plot is pretty simple, but there is great character development and the universe they inhabit is incredibly unique. It came out in ‘93, but I think the animation holds up pretty well more than 10 years later, especially considering it was only a six episode OVA.
It’s actually a prequel to the two live action Zeiram movies which I regrettably have yet to see. If there are anime fans out there who haven’t seen this yet, I’d suggest giving it a look.
All you Iria fans out there feel free to chime in.
