Martial arts
well, i did 4 years of Karate and four years of kendo. Karate got boring so i quite, and kendo was super hard. So after i finished learning how to use a katana i was like man I'm out, spear was pretty hard too, i mean i though kendo only was for the Katana, but you gotta learn how to use the spear and the shorukens and stuff.

Modern Arnis- Started two years ago, still into it.
Brazilian Jujitsu- One semester. Then I started Arnis- where the grapples come in handy.
Hapkido- One semester. Nothing new.

I've been in Northern Chinese style Xingyi Kung Fu, Lots of empty hand and some weapons training. Mostly Kwan sword. Been in lots of Choreographed matches and competed often in China and here in Canada. And I do yoga and meditation which is a valuable part of martial arts.

Re: Martial arts, which styles have you taken?
I've been involved in Okinawan Kempo Karate for about five and a half years now, and obtained my black belt last December. Now I instruct, for the most part. I also hold a yellow belt in Shinjitsu Ryu Jiujitsu, and I've done a little bit of Tae Kwon Do, and Shorin Ryu Karate. I've had quite a bit of training with Katana, but I'm much more profficient with the Bo/Jo staff. I also recently picked up the Nunchaku.
Word of advice - when learning the Nunchucks, use a foam padded pair first. Hard wood is never the way to go unless you have some idea of what your doing. The multiple bruises on my head/elbow/arm can attest to that.

Ack, I forgot Aikido, which is a lot like Jiujitsu, only without so much emphasis on breaking bones. But yeah, I've done that too.

LOL, that was pretty cool Ryo, and yeah you do look pretty big.
What was that for exactly? An exhibition for your parents and friends?

BRAVO! You both put on an excellent demonstration. Very nice moves, choreography, pacing, etc.
How about a little background, Ryo, on what we are seeing, what's all involved, etc.?

Re: Watching Ryo get his butt whipped. Real entertainment.
Yeah, my outfit was a wee bit big. And because I ran over to my kungfu school directly after finishing SATs, I didn't have much time to adjust myself.
It's kungfu, as noted, and it was for our annual school demo, Me and a friend decided to choreograph a fight scene. Turned out pretty well me thinks.
And we sold the moves because most of them were really us hitting each other. Eheh

Re: Watching Ryo get his butt whipped. Real entertainment.
As you can see, I'm not what you would call overweight. A big dude? Maybe.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm actually planning, for my senior project, to make a short ten-fifteen minute kungfu movie in black and white, with music, bad dubbing, and a terrible script.

Any one here know Martial Arts?
I recently decided that I want to take up martial arts; not for a living, but as a hobby. I've narrowed my choices to Boxing, Karate, Kung Foo [ of what nature I'm not sure of yet.], or kick boxing. So I was wondering: do any of you guys have experience in any of these fields of fighting? If so, could you give me a description of all the major points that each fighting style incorperates?
EX: Boxing is more offesive than Karate, but Karate....etc.
Feel free to share stories of things you may have learned, seen, or felt while experiancing these arts. Also include other Martial arts you are a part of or admire, if you wish.
Thanks!

I've dabbled in Chun Kuk Do, the universal way. It's just what it says, incorporating generic battle tactics of various sources.
