Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Ok, here's a batch of new films to talk about for some time to come. First, this is VERY exciting; a new 'very different' take on "THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS", from the 'BBC', discussed in this article[while there be sure to check out the cool new short film version as well]: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...-the-triffids/ and: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2008/1...-triffids.html Now; here's another exciting remake; "THE TRIPODS" are coming back!!: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...ripods-return/ Also; here's an incredibly fun all CGI animated short film called "ROCKFISH" from 2003 that now has a feature length version in the works to be voiced by none other than Vin Diesel: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...-be-dangerous/ A minor update with behind-the-scenes pics and cast photos of the big bugs invading New York movie "PESTICIDE": http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...ate-pesticide/ Now, here's a fantastic artsy little animated short film from a group called "The BlackHeart Gang" that's just one part of what will be a trilogy called the "The Dodo Trilogy", which will itself be part of an even bigger work called "The Household" this one's entitled; "THE TALE OF HOW" [2006] and is a beautiful combination of art and music featuring a very unique and very big giant octopus with a tree growing on it's head named "Otto The Monster"?![be sure to check out the beautiful 'Sea Orchestra' Airlines ad included in the post for a BIG fun kaiju surprise]: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...e-tale-of-how/ And lastly an insane little micro-budget indie from 2006 finally being made available to the public on DVD that's a kaiju spoof in the form of a children's pantomime, and features nutty characters with wacky names such as; "ZuZu", "KuKu", "PuPu", "FrankenPuPu" and what looks like "Guilala's' albino/fuzzy-wuzzy cousin named "Pulala", that we all somehow missed called "ZUZU; QUEEN OF THE MONSTERS": http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...-the-monsters/

"INFESTATION" !!
I've been anxiously awaiting any updates on this one from the winner of 'Project Greenlight' for what seems like forever and a day. Finally the film has been completed after a very lengthy post production and it has received an 'R' rating which is more great news. Also there's a new poster that has arrived for the film with the an awesome new catchphrase; "Prepare For Global Swarming"[be sure to check out the creator's previous awesome short "INSEX" and this film's original poster art in the link]: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...w-infestation/ and the official website: http://www.infestationthemovie.com/ The synopsis:
"Our hero, Cooper, awakes to find himself nauseous, weak and covered in webbing, hanging from the ceiling of an office where, just minutes ago, he started his new job. As he struggles out of his slimy prison he comes face to face with his opponent - a grotesque, powerful and very angry bug. All 3 ft of it.
And so begins a hideous, nail-biting, comedic, all-action adventure to find a safe haven while constantly outwitting an infestation of monstrous proportions. As Cooper embarks on his journey, he befriends a ragtag group of survivors including Sara, a feisty attractive female. Although the situation is dire, Cooper can't help himself from trying to solve his dating problem while trying to save his life.
Will they make it to safety before they are picked off one by one? And what other surprises are in store for our group of unlikely heroes?" I've also caught word that there's more great stuff coming really soon!!

Multiple Guilalas In An American Commercial for Ladders
Believe it or not, but Guilala isn't out of work yet...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Q7UzbdoxE
Well, seeing how unfortunate his comeback film was, I say good for Guilala to not only be appearing in a US commercial, but with rather impressive, originally shot footage as well!
20th Century Boys Production Notes
Because it needs more exposure (and has a Gigantic Robot of virus-spewing death), Kpa posted the following on the ambitious sci-fi trilogy from Toho:

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Finally someone posts so I'm free to post again. I've got lots of goodies including updates on several classics. Let's start with a remake of:
"THE GOLEM":
http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/14636
Then; a whole new take on
"MOBY DICK" : http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...-of-moby-dick/
OK, then a prequel to
"20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA": http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...0-leagues.html
Then, finally not 1 but 2 remakes in the works of
"JACK THE GIANT KILLER": http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...nt-killer.html
Now for some fresh new story films; how about a giant catfish monster in:
"LAKE EFFECTS": http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...e-monster.html
Also; here's a couple for the dragon lovers out there;
"DRAGON HUNTER" : http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...on-hunter.html
Also; 'The Asylum has posted up the poster/dvd art and a few pics from their:
"DRAGON QUEST":
http://theasylum.cc/product.php?id=153
While we're on 'The Asylum' they have retitled the film "Mega-Shark vs. Giant Squid" to now be "Mega-Shark vs. Giant Octopus" well, at least temporarily. Also; both that film and "Transmorphers: 2 " will now be in 3-D. A trick that's starting to be used all too often as even Halcyon's "Amphibious" and another title they have in the works about big killer Komodo dragons will now be using the technique.
Now a couple of new posters from the new
"LAND OF THE LOST":
http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...d-of-lost.html and:
http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...-it-plane.html
OK, then how about a film featuring lots of awesome giant robots called;
"POPBOT" : http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...goes-to-POPBOT
Then, finally news of a film to be made in China about giant mutant rats from Japan entitled:
"BOMB SHELTER": http://www.varietyasiaonline.com/com...blog/show,6843 That's enough for now and more to come soon....

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Doctor Who: State of Decay and Doctor Who: The Power of Kroll - Special Edition Come to DVD
The second disc in the upcoming E-Space Trilogy box set, in which the Fourth Doctor (played by Tom Baker) and friends are trapped in a totally different reality and with the dangers in it, will be the serial State of Decay.
In this adventure, the Doctor deals with vampire tyrants of one night ridden world, who want to awaken their god The Great Vampire; a giant winged demon and ancient enemy to the Time Lords (the Doctor's race). I have not seen the story myself, but because the Great Vampire is a giant monster, thought I bring it up anyways.
Plus the extras for this disc seem to include three documentaries on Vampire lore in general, within and beyond the Doctor Who franchise. More information in the following links:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doc...-Trilogy/11133
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doc...-Trilogy/11126
While on the subject of the Doctor fighting kaiju, The Power of Kroll, another Tom Baker era story with a title giant monster, is being re-released along with the other stories in the highly enjoyable Key To Time story arc, with improved picture, sound, and a host of new bonus material, over the bare bone original releases from 2002. Although Kroll is one big-ars mutant squid, other and better adventures in the Key To Time season include The Pirate Planet, The Androids of Tara, The Stones of Blood, and The Ribos Operation, as well as the overly long, but decent The Armageddon Factor.

Spoiler filled articles on both The Power of Kroll and State of Decay can be found these two links, so be forewarned:

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
So is Toho gonna use any of the Kaiju in ANY upcoming films?
Or do we have to deal with Giant Monster Burn out from them?

P.S. Some of the reviews or comments had me rolling on the floor

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Probably not, though according to Yoshikazu Ishii (the first assistant director of special effects for GFW) Toho recieves many pitches for various kaiju related projects involving their properties. When I asked him about Godzilla/kaiju anime projects, he stated that while he's never heard of a Godzilla anime considered by Toho, he has seen several involving other kaiju.
Might take it with a wee grain of salt, but it is something to ponder...

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
So do you think that could be "regular" anime animation? or CGI animation? I really think they could and should go with CGI... They could mirror the suit effects and get damn close to getting them to look realistic. Far as I am concerned... they could CGI Godzilla films from here til the end of time.
So where is the best place to find Godzilla News... Toho's page is written in Japanese and I can't make heads or tails of that.
Sci-Fi Japan seems damn good. But whenever I try to use their search engine I get a bunch of stuff I wasn't looking for.
So who is the best... where is the best place for me to look for ANY news on Kaiju?
Thanks BS Digital Q

^'Sci-Fi Japan' is a fantastic source. As well as our sites; 'RoboJapan/MonsterIslandNews' and 'UnDead BackBrain'. Also; of course here on these forums as we're always posting any news that comes to the sites here for the fans. Other forums; 'TohoKingdom' and 'ClubTokyo/MonsterZero' message boards are great too.

Regular. Anime nowadays incorporates a mixture of CGI and digital 2D animation. The last anime to be drawn entirely using physical cels was Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, back in 1999.

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Ok, I'm back with a HUGE batch of giant monster goodies including several more remakes of classics. First let's start off with a remake of one of my all time favorite 80's horror flicks that featured some big stop-motion demons, and even inspired a cheesy sequel, which is now rumored to get the 3-D treatment. Although it has been off again on again it finally seems set to film;
"THE GATE":
http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/02/11/...he-gate-in-3d/
Then we'll follow that one with what will surely be the raping of my youth with a remake of another one of my all time favorites which featured several giant creatures;
"THE NEVER ENDING STORY":
http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...R-ENDING-STORY
Then, here's news of casting on two more big films; one of them yet another remake of a classic;
"CLASH OF THE TITANS" &
"WAR OF THE GODS":
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=50295
Now, this is really cool for the animation fans. An animated film from Korea featuring some giant robots that was originally a short film in 2005. A feature length remake is rumored to be coming:
"FOREST OF NEMI":
http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/gian...-forest-of-ne/
Here's another animated short; this one from Russia and Walt Disney that features something really big;
"GLAGO'S GUEST":
http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...s-GLAGOs-GUEST
Ok, now here's an awesome update; an exclusive big batch of pics I landed on a really cool looking big blob-like film that I previously mentioned here before[NOTE: NSFW];
"BIO-SLIME":
http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...rom-the-walls/
Now, the 'Asylum Ent.' has just announced their 'mock-buster' which will coincide with "Land Of The Lost"....it's a remake of[sorry no more pics or details just yet] :
"THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT".
Now, since we already mentioned it, a very funny new vid from the new movie adaption of;
"LAND OF THE LOST":
http://io9.com/5158461/hold-up--will...ually-be-funny
and it's official website has been launched:
www.landofthelost.net
Now word comes of a new big budget IMAX film by Terrence Malik with dinosaurs, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn?!?!;
"THE TREE OF LIFE":
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40282
Now the last two films are really awesome ones I'm so looking forward to. Both are post apocalyptic themed and feature some really big and awesome looking beasties. First this one has a real "Outlander" feel to it;
"FEROCIOUS":
http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...m-Drew-Maxwell
Then, finally, here's a big budget one from '20th. Century Fox' with giant polar bears[no this ain't no "The Golden Compass"] and 'deformed giants' which remind me of "Cloverfield"s monster;
"WYNTER DARK":
http://samice.cgsociety.org/gallery/651355/
and:
http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...ck-WYNTER-DARK
and:
http://www.quietearth.us/articles/20...ck-WYNTER-DARK
and meet the 'deformed giants' called the "Momen":

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
SYM-BIONIC TITAN: NEW GIANT ROBOT AND MONSTER SERIES FOR CARTOON NETWORK
From Giant Monsters Attack!:
Quote:
|
Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack is returning to Cartoon Network to produce a new animated series called Sym-Bionic Titan. There’s not much in the way of details yet, other than the story being described as “an exciting hybrid of high school drama and giant robot battles”. I love how the giant robot guy has a body reminiscent of the old Micronauts action figures; I can already envision the toys for this thing.
|
http://giantmonstersattack.blogspot....-goodness.html
And now my thoughts on the matter:
Yeah, the whole bit about high school sounds cliche and overdone, with a large list of superhero action shows who'll abandon adventure and super villains for teenage bullies and 'hip' pranks. Some examples include:
Danny Phantom
My Life As a Teenage Robot
The later seasons of Batman Beyond
Most Spider-Man cartoons where Peter hasn't reached a legal drinking age
A lot of the shows that tried to ape Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
WAY TOO MANY ANIME
And the unsold pilot for Murder She Wrote: the Animated Series
Yeah, the whole bit about high school sounds overdone...BUT it's good news all the same, as Genndy is an awesome director and he's obviously a big daikaiju fan, seeing how many of his past shows were littered with giant monsters and obvious anime and tokusatsu (look it up) parodies. Though seeing how Monsters vs. Aliens is being brutally attacked on the forums simply for not being Japanese in origins, and G-fans being equally harsh on Daikaiju Gehara for not being Godzilla himself...
Never mind, who cares, live and let live; Genndy is doing a giant robot cartoon and the world is a better place for it.
Genndy Tartakovsky was also in charge of the original, two-dimensional Star Wars: the Clone Wars, and the brutally violent, but surprisingly cleaver for an Adult Swim, and thus became an unsold pilot for Korgoth of Barbaria. Both of which had healthy doses of giant monsters...and strangely all took place in high school settings.

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Time again for another HUGE batch of new films to get us all excited.
First, let's start out with yet another remake of an old favorite of mine a classic from 1957 which featured a giant demon monster. At least this one does have a very talented name behind it; Kenneth Branagh. Yep;
"NIGHT OF THE DEMON" [a.k.a. "CURSE OF THE DEMON"]:
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/308...g-demon-remake
Ummm...gee....I am for once at a loss of words on how to describe this next film; a ummm... very different take on the 'Loch Ness' monster story. One that you guys have just got to read for yourselves to believe and hopefully a connection of mine will be getting me some materials from;
"BRAVETART VS. THE LOCH NESS MONSTER"
http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php...s-ken-russell/
News of a brand new fun sounding daikaiju short film that I'll be getting exclusives on from the filming which is taking place in Wales;
"A MONSTER MOVIE"
http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...ter-movie.html
Now how about a movie adaption of a popular childrens' book that should please those 'Transformers' fans that are anxiously awaiting the big screen/live-action renditions of the 'Dino-Bots';
"DINOTRUX"
http://io9.com/5169639/dinotrux-offe...arnage-for-all
Here's an update on the casting for 'The Asylum's' remake of[exclusives coming soon];
"THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT"
http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2009/0...ke-begins.html
and the original from 1975's trailer for those unfamiliar with the great film:
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/310...at-time-forgot
The first image has been revealed from the 'BBC's remake of;
"THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS" [scroll down]
http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...-triffids.html
Here's a casting call I caught for a TV soda commercial that will apparently feature "Big Bugs" [look for it to eventually show up in that 'French Gino' thread right?]
"BIG BUG TV SODA AD"
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/d...077130666.html
OK, now here's the webpage and trailer for a film that has unfortunately been in production limbo since 2006 that originally started out as a fan film of 'King Kong'. Hopefully it will be revived soon;
"BIG CHIMP"
http://big-chimp.co.uk/
The trailer for 'The Asylum's' latest monster flick just hitting dvd which looks rather cool;
"DRAGON QUEST"
http://undeadbrainspasm.blogspot.com...agonquest.html
Now if you're gonna be in Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, June 28th. you should definitely try and catch the world premiere at "Monster Bash" 2009 of Brian Nichols family's latest 'Ghoul Girls' romp
"ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT GHOUL GIRL":[wish I had more details/materials]
http://www.monsterbashnews.com/schedule.html
Yet another big screen adapation of a classic work. Now there's 2 new takes on "Moby Dick" headed to the big screen! This new one is being adapted from the book that the original film was based off of;
"IN THE HEART OF THE SEA"
http://www.geektyrant.com/2009/03/2-...imultaneously/
An update; a batch of pics[unfortunately not of the creature[s] but still cool] for;
"FEROCIOUS"

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Everything seem fun and laughable, except for the clash of the titans remake. That does not make me happy at all. But thanks for the news Avery...

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Land of the Lost Marathon This Monday
This Memorial Day monday, Sci-Fi Channel will air an eight-hour marathon of the original 1974 Land of the Lost, from 8AM-to-4AM (ET/PT), as promotion for the upcoming Will Ferrell movie version.
I have not seen the original series for ages, but this is something that isn't aired regularly on television anymore, let alone Sci-Fi, and their constant stream of contemporary reality shows and weekly CGI-crap-taculars.
More information of the classic stop-motion-crap-tacular (joke) in the following links:

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
1. The Hobbit poster's color scheme does not match the Lord of the Rings, I do not have a good feeling about this
2.Yea....
3.NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
4.God, so many dragon films. Why not just re-release D-WAR, only with improved CGI, adding of deleted scenes, and editing to make the film go from 2/5 in some peoples minds to 3.5/5
Rest: Yea....

The Great Bear: 2011 Animated Fantasy
Not to be mistaken with the future Pixar project The Bow and the Bear, which, incidentally, also is a fantasy adventure with a larger-then-normal omnivore, Twitch has an brief article, a beautiful bit of concept art, and plot description here:

More Iconic / The Life and Death of Talos the Bronze Tidbits

Re: Upcoming Giant Monster Projects
Ultraman (2009-2010)
Well, despite the continuing Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battles spin-offs, it seems that Tsuburaya Productions still have plans for their red and silver alien heroes; Warner Bros Japan is currently at work on a new film simply titled Ultraman, which will be released either this December, or early in 2010.
Monster Zero forums has the first small snippets of the mysterious film here:
http://www.clubtokyo.org/discuss/viewtopic.php?t=15776
Now to make it clear, despite the name AND being an off-shoot of Warner Brothers in America, this does not mean the new film is an American-Japanese co-production. Warner Bros Japan is simply a major distributor and have handled a number of films in the past, and many not so well known outside their native country (the live action Cutey Honey The Movie being a good, recent example).
