More Speculation: How well will GFW do at the worldwide box office? POLL

If I remember correctly, Toho says they are hoping GFW will break 100 million dollars at the box office worldwide. Will they succeed their goal? Or will this film fail and make only the amount the average Godzilla makes? Will all this publicity and big budgeting spark the success for this film?

Well you decide. I hope you guys will find this topic interesting... as I do.

None of the millenium series movies have hit No.1 yet (GMK coming the closest @#2), and I seriously doubt this movie will make it to No.1.

JJ's right. The fact that this is the last movie, the 50th anniversary, being directed by an up-and-coming hot new Jap director, and perhaps the biggest G movie yet in scale and visuals, all it needs is a solid advertising campaign and it would be set, some hot trailers, sponsors, specials in fastfood chains, etc.

Fun Fact: Godzilla 2000 was given better credit by the critics than the American Godzilla film.

I just hope Sony will do a good job marketing this film via advertising!
One of the reasons why Godzilla 2000 made only 9 million at the American box office was because there were no previews, sponsors, etc. So far this new film has been getting quite alot of attention; it already has been mentioned several times on the radio where I live.

C'mon Sony and Toho, all we need is a PG-13 rating (which does cash in a bigger audience than a PG film), good dubbing, and some good theatrical trailers and this film will do excellent. My guess is it will make around $50,000,000 worldwide if it gets some high potential.

Acually, I think Godzilla 2000 made more in the US. after two weeks than toho even did.

I think it will make around $20,000,000 here in North America and $35,000,000 in the other countries worldwide.

Hopefully more than Godzilla 2000 since I saw the first showing and only 3 people besides me were there and I thought shouldn't more people be here?

So I bet it will make alot of cash!

It seems as though everyone who went to see G2000 says that there were only several people in the theater with them.

When I went to go see it, it was on the second week of opening, and there were about 30 people in the theater.

I think GFW will to better because it has gotten quite a bit of publicity so far and the holiday season will give it more success.

When I saw G2000 about 20-25 people where there. I se GFW making around 15-20 million in the U.S. But it will do bett than G2000 since it's his 50th.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll do 'good'. after G2000 and no hear-say of a GINO 2, people in the US well likely pass it off for something else or just take there kids to it.

But you never know...

Keep in mind that G2000 made $10,000,000 here in the States when conparing the two.

Ah yes, I have some funny memories of kids like that in the G2000 theater.
A father and his two little boys, both about 7, kept saying things out loud during the movie:

"That dinosaur is cool!"
"Dad! Can we get this movie!?"
"Use your breath, dinosaur!"

Hopefully a lot of parents are going to take there kids to go see GFW. Luckily, it will be around the holiday season, so during Christmas vacation they'll take the kids.

Someone had asked how long a Godzilla movie's theater run is in Japan. We know G2000 lasted maybe two weeks here in the U.S. (if that long in some theaters). We also have bargain theaters that usually show movies that have been out for a while so they'll also have to be counted in the long run, no doubt.

"Godzilla films usually open in early or mid-December and play through the first or second week of January so all the kids and fans can see them over the New Year's break. Thus, they usually play for at least a month.

"As far as bargain theaters, they are extremely few and far between and rarely play "mainstream" stuff. There are a few "cult" theaters, like the Minanami Kaikan in Kyoto, that play all kinds of cool stuff, like Toho film festivals and the like!

"You may occasionally find a film that has finished its run playing out in the rural areas, usually at small theaters in department stores. In 1999, after Gamera III was out of the regular theaters, I found it just opening at an "AL PLAZA" dept. store in the Kyoto countryside. It was basically like a projection TV system.

"Sorry, I don't have any concrete information about theaters in Tokyo as I'm in Osaka."

TOHO actually thought they could against The Incredibles.

Godzilla got beat by Mr Incredible, same thing happened when Tokyo SOS was released in Japan, Nemo beat Goji.

I don't see GFW making more than $30-$50 million worldwide AT BEST. We U.S. fans are a small band of moviegoers and VERY few people who aren't embedded in the fandom will see the film. To be quite honest, if it's going to make a lot of money, it will make most of it in Japan because I don't see it doing any better here than G2K sadly.
While I hate to put the film down as far as ticket sales, you just have to be a realist sometimes. Sucks too because another damn Pixar film is ruining another Godzilla film (even though I do like most of Pixar's films)!

Goji may have beaten the likes of Destroyah, King Ghidorah, and SpaceGodzilla. But he cannot beat a clown fish, a boy wizard, a man in red tights and Tom Criuse. Poor, poor goji.
