Cryptozoology
Here's some references to start things off:
Anything by Loren Coleman might be helpful. "Mysterious America" is one of his best and he is one of the top Sasquatch experts alive. (He got started as a child viewing Honda's "Half Human." Even a G-related connection to all this!
The best all round book could be "The Complete Guide to Mysterious Beings" by John Keel. The one out now is an update and reprint of his 1970 classic on monsters. It's also well researched.
And here are some "subjects" to look (out) for:
Some monsters from the past:
The Kongamato (Africa): a flying creature which has a beak like a bird but with teeth and skin like a reptile and bat-like wings, best know for its agressiveness because it attacks and even kills people who dare to enter its territory.
Sea monsters are always good (and enduring) tales to follow up on.
There is also THE MUSEUM OF UNNATURAL MYSTERY

Now, now... before I begin, all debates on whether aliens exist or not, or whether they're satanic demons or they really are beings from outer space ARE to remain out of this discussion... you wanna debate it.. make your own thread. Now, back on topic....
Has anyone here ever been (or think they have been) abducted by aliens? Has anyone of us ever had an encounter with a being (supposedly) from another world? Have you ever woken up to find yourself surrounded by alien-like creatures in your room? Or has anyone on this board had a strange encounter with a Flying Saucer/U.F.O.?

Meet the Missouri Momo Monster! In SW Missouri during the 70's, there seemed to be several sightings along the Spooklight Trail. The Spooklight actually exists (do a Google search). It actually made an episode of In Search Of... The MO-MO was just some stupid kid in a monkey suit with glowing eyes who almost got shot!
This is a violent Bigfoot, killing dogs and chasing people. No Harry and the Hendersons around these here parts! And around SW Missouri, in the Joplin area, just because they had some guy on TV in the monkey suit in handcuffs
doesn't mean Mo-Mo isn't still out there!!
From Oklahoma comes "the friend who worked for the local sheriff's department at the time who witnessed a large serpent-like creature in the lake close to where they live. This was back in the '80's and she and a small crowd of other onlookers saw it too. She said it was every bit of 12 feet long. The story even made it into the local newspaper. The same friend spotted the creature a second time a few years later. They don't have gators in Oklahoma so it wasn't that and the snakes and fish around there don't get that big. To this day, it remains a mystery as to what it actually was." At a very secluded area of the same lake several years after the creature story, a big honkin' beaver showed up!

Today was the first time I came across it. I read this report, which I found truly unnerving. It literally scared me. So did the second part of it. This isn't just another crazy whacked out site though, I've found that everything on it is backed by an overwhelming amount of evidence. I even checked the NIDS website for some photographs of cattle mutilated from this incident. This story is just so fantastic and compelling, I can't help but share it with others.

There should be a listing of Big Foot movies in the Non-Kaiju Movie chat.
If anyone knows of other applicable "creature features", please list them, even if so many seem to take "liberties" with the source material!

Does anyone here remember a website called Paranormal News Network (or P3N for short) ? I used to frequent that site every day. Always had at least three new stories of UFO or cryptid sightings or other phenomena such as ghost, time travelers, etc. Admitedly, some of it was horse ####, but there was alot of it I found quite credible.
I filed a report of my own there once about something that happened to me back on July 2, 1997, when I was 12. If the site was still up, I'd link, but I think I have the actual report still here somewhere. I can scan it and post it later if anyone is interested. Word of warning though; my story always gets me a little freaked out.

PS, this is also a little more convincing thanks to having recently seeing the very realistic mini series: Taken.

Do you think that there really are other lifeforms in the universe besides us? Do you think the government is trying to cover it all up? Or is it all just one big hoax? What about Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, ghosts, or anything else? I believe in all of them. I want to see what all you guys believe in. And if you have any stories to tell I'd like to hear them.

<font color='#0000FF'>I believe in the possibility of those things, but I can't really claim to know whether they exist or not.
Plus, I don't know how people can not believe in the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe. Yeah, we've got this vast expanse of existance, and only this tiny speck of dust we call Earth could ever form life. Whatever.

Yep, our very own Big Foot (and not the one from Jonesboro). He gets his fair share of notriety, even on about.com. This guy has had several other appearances (besides in the movies) and is probably the state's most famous critter (other than assorted politicians!

Every heard of the Mothman? I bet you guys are familiar with the hit 2002 movie The Mothman Prophecies, that creature was freaky! I've done alot of research about the Mothman, who resembles little like a moth, and it is very convincing.

I don't know about the Mothman he doesn't seem to have an actual thing of origin, except if your one of those people who have those crazy visions of aliens, but, there is a possibility he exists so I'm not going to totally denounce my belief in the Mothman.

<font color='#728FCE'>There are giant vampire bats in South America I think the Mothman is mistaken for probably one of those. They're said to have a 5 ft wingspan and I forget how long but close to a human's size creepy stuff you hope you never run into one of them.

<font color='#ADA96E'>I beleive in most of those things. Has anyone heard of El Chupacabra (the goatsucker) I think that is an alien. And I think that the mothman is a new species that people haven't discovered yet, (gorilla story, anyone?) The only supernatural thing I dont beleive in are outrageous alien sightings such as "I was abducted by cute furry wite aliens and they taught me to speak there language" and people who have claimed to be able to speak an alien language. I once saw a person on a talk-show thing saying he had met an alien from Jupter and they taught him to speak Jupiter. He was clicking his tounge and then he said "That means hello and err good day" He was hesitant when he said that and I didn't beleive him. But nearly everything else I beleive in.

<font color='#FF0000'>I believe in most of that stuff. I am sure that some of it is faked, mainly by attention getters, but I believe that it is real. In fact, if I ever have enough money, I would like to go to that ranch that Pimp posted a link on. I could probably get Dante to go with me too...

<font color='#FF0000'>I just remebered two experiences that I have had. One might be easily explained, but I doubt the other one could.
The first was that one afternoon I was waiting for my mother and sister to come in the car. I was looking out the window when I saw what I thought was an airplane (it might have been, but wait). It was just flying along, but then I tried to stare at it. Now, I do wear glasses/contacts, but I still don't have the best eyesight in the world. But as I looked at the object, it seemed to come into focus, I could see angles and the exact shape of it. And it had to be at least 20+ miles away. This in itself was weird, but as I was watching it, the object stopped, and I could no longer see the details of it. I blinked, trying to clear my eyes for I had been staring for about a minute. When I looked for it again, it was gone. This was about 3 or 4 years ago.
Another event. For one thing, we have a graveyard next to our house. And not one of those large church graveyards. It is a small, private graveyard, and I have no idea as to why it is even on our property, though it has been here before I was born, and before my grandfather even bought this property. It has around 20 gravemarkers in it. But one October/November afternoon I was down by the small patch of tall weeds/grass that is next to the graveyard (which has no real meaning to this story, it is just freaky) with my dog. We were just playing in the grass. When I noticed that a large patch of grass had been flatend when I followed a trail of bent grass. I thought that perhaps a deer had laid there until I noticed that it looked like a humanoid had laid there. I laid down in the patch and it had seemed as if a person had slept there. But it was a large person. When I got up, the form had to be at least three feet taller than me, which would put it at around 8 ft, as the impression of my body was swallowed by the impressoin already there. By then my dog had caught up to me. She instantely stopped. The fur on her back was standing up on end and she was growling. She started sniffing the impression furiously. She then bolted through the fence that is in the back of the small lot into the trees, and as I watched, into the cow field. My curiosity significantly peaked, I went back to the spot and started to inspect the ground. Eventually I found a foot print that had broken the and left an impression in the dirt/mud. And it was not mine, as the was an indention for toes. Ther were five, and it was about four-five inches longer than my foot. And I doubt a person would walk barefoot in October/November. The dog finally came back, thoughrly winded, and was extremely nervous anytime we went back down into the hill.
Another story I have doesn't involve me, but my parents and my aunt's (who lives right up the road) three dogs, which are Catahoulla lepord (sp?) dogs, breed to hunt in the Louisiana bayou for boars (my aunt is a dog fanatic). One Sunday morning, while I was at Sunday School, they were sitting in the kitchen at the table. My mother said she could hear my aunts dogs barking. Then she said she could hear what was a scream like she had never heard before, almost like a person she said, but it clearly wasn't. At this my dad went outside, and he could hear one of the dogs yipping as if it were in pain. He said the sound came from the hills east of our house toward my aunt's. Later that day, we visited my aunt's, and one of the dogs a piece of high tensel wire around in nose, almost as if something had broken a piece of the fence and wrapped it around the nose. Another was bloody, but had no wounds. And the bloody one, without leaping up can see into our Grand Marquis' car window, and has a head about 7/8 the lenght of my keyboard. My dad and I searched the hills and found a cow carcass and it was missing bits and pieces. It seemed to me almost as if something had been eating the carcass by tearing pieces of with their hands, as there was no dog bite marks that I could find.
And I know that Dante has some stories as well.

I believe in the possibility of most of these things. But I do believe in other life out in the universe. Like Zigra said, it would seem just odd that this planet, out of the HUGE universe, could produce life.

Re: Aliens, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster!
Not to be rude, but I don't think that I believe in any of those stuff, but I do agree that it could be possible. It may happen, it may not happen, but for now, I'm leaning towards "It may not happen."
A Loch Ness Monster? I'm really confident that he doesn't exist. Some may believe that there is a Loch Ness Monster, but I really don't believe in him.
Aliens? Again, too close to call, but I think it's not possible.
UFO? Is it really a weird-shaped aircraft? Again, it may happen, but I'm pretty confident that it's not possible.
Bigfoot? Uh, I don't think so.
Again, anything is possible, but I'm really 95% confident that it's really not possible. I really don't believe in that stuff, but hey, anything can happen... maybe right now...
