Default Monster needs origin

I had a thought of bringing in a mammal kaiju into the fic world. It is a giant hedgehog with long jaws and sharp teeth. He needs an origin. But I absolutely hate radiation based origins, so please don't use those. Here are some stats I threw together

Hedgeoth
body length: 240ft
standing height: 220 ft
powers: Fangs, claws, quills, can curl in a ball, Energy Spike: he fires his quills and they are like lightning darts, Poision Stingers: he fires poisonous quills into opponent.

Let's see, could you make it a guardian of some form or make it some form of experiment?

An ancient, nearly extinct species of giant hedgehog.

In the lush jungles of Argentina lie many mysteries. One such mystery is a small civilization of people living in a deep valley. In the center of the valley is a giant temple where a fabled creature is said to have slept. One day archealogists discovered this culture of people and immediately set their eyes on the great temple, hoping to find riches and wealth. This disturbed Hedgeoth and the monster escaped from the temple by burrowing through it's solid stone walls. After the village had been destroyed Hedgeoth climbed a tall hill that overlooked it and echoed out his cry. The archealogists trembled in fear. What had they done? Now Hedgeoth rolled itself into a ball, moving away from the village.

(the mention of Sonic brought the Mystic Ruins as an inspiration for this)

Too bad Hedgehogs don't exist in Argentina. But I like the idea, maybe move it from Argentina to Europe somewhere. Maybe have the monster come from a Roman establishment, because the largest hedgehog in the fossil record lived near there.

Does anyone think this monster is too much like Anguirus? Monstura pointed that out to me and I was wondering what you ppl thought. But I knew Hedgeoth would be compared to sonic.

I have a few ideas.

1. Somewhere in australia, an mining company ran into a dillema. They had drilled right into a place where a large gas filled rock lay. DEspite the danger of an explosion the miners were told to drill throuh it. As they did, the gas began to drain out. This ancient gas had preserved a bizzar creature from the pleistoscene era. As the preservative gas was emptied, the creature began to stir. The ground shook and a massive hedgehog-like beast arose from the ground.

2. Again, somewhere in australia, An expeiment was being conducted, In which guard dogs were being replaced with a new, deadlier creature. Choosing a hedgehog as the host creature, a genetic enhancement was performed. The experiment was partialy successful. The hedgehog mutated only slightly, barely bigger than a small dog. Another try was made but the creature still didnt mutate enough. Eventually the project was scrapped and the hedgehog was to be destroyed. As it was left in a lab overnight the effects of the last experiment took effect and the hedgehog mutated further. Nearly as big as a bear, it tore out of the cage and lab alike. As it escaped into the desert, it preyed upon local campers and vacationers, growing with each meal.
Finally it stabalized but it was too late. It had already grown to over 200 feet long, and was now armed with several new weapons.
hedgeoth was born.

3.At some point Earth drifted into a stellar cloud. While the cloud seemed ralatively harmless it cloaked the sky in a blanket of pink mist for several days. Unknown to humans, a new creature had come to earth. Several floating, glowing jellyfish-like creatures appeared. They began to descend upon the creatures of earth, attempting to merge with them. Many bonds resulted in both creatures death, or they were killed before they could become menacing, but some survived.
One such was a creature that merged with a hedgehog. As the infusor alien invaded its genome, The animal began to mutate. soon it was over 200 feet long and bristling with venomus quills. (yes, Iv been watching anime)
