What is the best Godzilla DVD that is currently available in stores in North America?
I'm thinking of picking up a Goji DVD or two shortly, and I'm just looking for some recommendations. Just leave a list of about 3 or 4 of what you think are the best ones. If you know where I can pick up versions of these with the Japanese voice track, please let me know. (if any Japanese voice/English subtitled versions exist at all, even better. I know it's a long shot, but one can dream, eh?)

Re: What would you recommend?
All of those have the Japanese track?! Cool! Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Luckily, Amazon UK sell Region 1 releases as well as Region 2/Europe DVDs, so I think I'll be getting a couple of those within the next few days! Thanks a lot!
Also, I heard rumours a while back that the uncut, unedited G54 would be getting a region 1 release. Has any new news come up regarding this?

I don't know about the US release, but you might be interested in the Australian dvd. Not only does it contain a subbed version of the film, but also the US 'King of thw Monsters' cut as well. Picture quality's very good as well, despite a few specks n' scratches here an' there. The Japanese trailer's on there too.
Overall, a very nice dvd, and well worth picking up.

It's a PAL disc, but since you're living in the UK, that shouldn't be a problem.

Re: What would you recommend?
You could try Ebay. That's where I got mine. Or you could check out cdwow. com. They had it in stock at one time. I'm not sure if they have it now, though.

Re: What would you recommend?
Just how 'intact' are these films anyway? Are the ones that have been coming out lately the 'uncut' versions? I've heard several of them were altered a fair amount when they were first released Stateside.

I'm currently catching up on Sony's recent slew of Godzilla releases, such as Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. Hedorah. So, this pretty much brought this topic in existance. When I say "Best Godzilla DVD" I don't mean your favorite one, but which one you think is highest in quality. How well the dubbing, subtitles, picture, etc. all go into this.
I'm just talking about the Sony ones, here.

Ehhh... I would have to say Son of Godzilla for quality over all. But the recent Sony releases have certainly raised the bar for any future DVD release.

Re: What is the best Godzilla DVD that is currently available in stores in North America?
Giant monster all out attack, really surprised me with the different direction it takes, the scrapper Godzilla, and an exceptional score... I enjoyed this film as a one shot, and it really portrays godzilla as the anology he once was.
they're all good films sure, but if I was only going to accuire one that one would without a doubt be it.

For overall QUALITY that you're asking for, and not an OPINION of the film itself, GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA is one of the finest cleanest prints I've seen
TOKYO SOS & G2K have good extras

Re: What is the best Godzilla DVD that is currently available in stores in North America?
Am going to say Godzilla Tokyo SOS because to me it has good and sound quality just like the others but the extra it has which Jet Jaguar said was it's Behind the Scene Footage. G2K had behind the scene footage to but not nearly as much as Tokyo SOS.

Re: What is the best Godzilla DVD that is currently available in stores in North America?
The only thing that I didn't like about the new Tokyo SOS DVD is that sometimes the picture goes a little fuzzy in some parts. Kinda annoying and shows they could have done better easily. So far I'm not too sure what to choose, but I would have voted for GMK if it weren't for that huge mistake in the dialouge when Yuri's father exclaimed "Yes! Excellent!" went the D-03 in the Satsuma hit Ghidorah's neck.

Re: What is the best Godzilla DVD that is currently available in stores in North America?
Hmm...this is a toughy. I was very impressed with all four of Sony's most recent Showa releases. At the same time, Tokyo SOS was okay but got grainy in a few areas.
I also thought G2K was very good with the exception of some matte work.
But I am going to be an oddball and pick Son of Godzilla.
