Near the end of the film, when Lee (the captain) is running from the T-Rex, Lee becomes trapped between the Rex and a smaller lizard-like monster on a cliff face (the Rhedosaur).

I happened to find this pretty cool. I'm not sure if it's the original prop, or a new one, though. If someone could confirm that...

In fact, I found some images of it.

Pic. 1

Pic. 2

Rhedosaur?

The third picture is a totally different creature, I think. The color scheme is different than the version in the movie. Maybe it was a maquette for it. It could also possibly be the amazingly similar Allosaurus (?) seen in the film.

I have both those films, but the Rhedosaurus is not a real dino, that may be a tribute to it like in the movie Kraa, Kraa steps on a plaque that says Godzilla.

Yep, that's pretty cool. I mentioned it in my DMI review of PoD.

Yes. The humans kill it at the end by impaling it.

If there even are different species, I'd highly doubt it. This one was rather weak, considering he got his butt handed to him on a silver platerr by the T-Rex. Also he looked less vicious and rancorous, while The Beast obviously didn't. Not to mention he was more of a chestnut color, and he was waaaaaaay smaller.

Roughly twice a normal spider's size, so yeah.

Yeah, I own this movie. It's rather entertaining, even though it's not very good.

And that is definitly not the same model at the Rhedosaurus one in BFTTF.

There was a 1992 movie called Galaxy of the Dinosaurs that swiped effects footage from Planet. I wonder if the Rhedosaur appeared in that one, too...

I've never seen that movie before, so I can't tell you, but I know the film "The Phantom Empire" (1986) has footage of the Rhedosaur/Tyrannosaurus fight.

I think it was meant to be a tribute and nothing more, but maybe it is possible that doing so kind of snuck the Beast From 20,000 Fathoms into their story and this fictional monster is living on this alien planet.
