Cool Arashi: The Storm Dragon

Here you will find any and all kaiju that I have invented or redone. Most of the kaiju re-dos are of Toho monsters. I haven't tried my hand at Daiei kaiju yet, but I suppose it's only a matter of time.

The most notable of the original monsters is Arashi, the illegitimate son of King Ghidorah. If any of these kaiju could be considered my personal kaiju, it would be Arashi.

The stats for Arashi are below. Other kaiju will be added when time allows.

---

NAME: Arashi

It’s Japanese for storm, which makes sense. His energy bolt can be seen as lightning, his EMP as thunder, and his hurricane winds are pretty self-explanatory.

ALIAS(ES): Lord Arashi; The Storm Dragon;

KAIJU TYPE: Manmade Dragon

AFFILIATION: Neutral Hero

HEIGHT:

-120 Meters Tall
-175 Meter Wingspan

WEIGHT: 77,500 Tons

POWERS: All of Arashi's unnatural abilities deal with the manipulation of energy in some way. With his humanlike intelligence, Arashi is capable of manipulating his energy to serve a number of functions.

Energy Bolt - Similar in appearance to Ghidorah’s gravity beams, except there’s only one and it’s an electric blue instead of yellow. It is emitted from Arashi’s mouth and is larger and more focused than one of Ghidorah’s gravity beams. It has the same gravity properties as Ghidorah’s weapon, but is also mixed with electricity to create a devastating projectile. The energy bolt has enough kinetic force behind it to potentially topple all but the largest and heaviest kaiju. Has to be fired in bursts, can’t be used in a steady stream.

Superheated Claws - Arashi can summon his energy into his claws, causing them to glow white hot. As Arashi strikes his enemies with this attack, the electricity is bled out into the opponent’s body, causing damage on the cellular level. Arashi has to continually feed energy into his claws if he wants his superheated claws to strike at full strength with every blow.

Shield Wings - Arashi can use the bony points on his wings as focusers to create an energy shield across them that he can then use to cover himself and block attacks. The shield is flexible and can retain its strength no matter how Arashi’s wings move or fold. While the shield is mostly good for blocking range attacks, it’ll also electrify anything that is foolish enough to come into contact with it. The downside of the shield is that it’s mostly effective for blocking attacks from the front and sides. His wings aren’t flexible enough to block attacks that come from behind him.

External Energy - To superheat his claws or create his shield wings, Arashi’s energy has to flow on the outside of his body. The electricity is drawn from his spines which is then directed to the appropriate area. Arashi can also use this ability to electrify his entire body or to release that energy in an explosion of power. Note: this has no effect on his energy bolt.

Electricity Transfer - Arashi can absorb all manner of electricity and use it to replenish himself and/or accelerate his natural regeneration. He can also do the reverse and pump massive amounts of electricity into an opponent/object. He is able to do this through his claws, mouth, or the spines on his back.

Accelerated Healing - The power of electricity that flows through Arashi has gifted him with an enhanced immune system. Although he is not immune to contagions, his body can quickly identify any harmful foreign object that makes its way inside and neutralize it much faster than a normal body.

Triphibian - Arashi can move through land, sea, and air. Although Arashi can breathe underwater and his body can withstand enormous pressure, he’s not an adept swimmer. He currently cannot survive long in space.

Other Abilities - Human level intelligence, flight at mach 3, hurricane winds from wings, high tolerance for radiation, can generate an EMP from within his body, and has a whiplike/prehensile tail that can be used to wrap around objects or strike like a whip.

WEAKNESSES: As many powers as he has, Arashi’s greatest weapon is probably his high intelligence. Since he was created from King Ghidorah’s cells, he has to continually fight with the evil essence of King Ghidorah that irrevocably lays within his DNA. He can be driven to revert to a more primal mindset if he loses control to this evil essence, making him a destroyer of mankind instead of a savior.

Also, He has some resistance to the cold, but very intense sub-zero temperatures will bring him down if he’s exposed long enough.

APPEARANCE: Arashi very closely resembles the Western idea of a dragon. He’s primarily a biped, but he can walk along on all fours with little difficulty. His powerful arms end in hands with three taloned fingers and a thumb. His muscular neck is vaguely snakelike and about half the size of King Ghidorah’s.

He has a column of thin spines running down his back that end at the base of his tail and glow white when he fires his energy bolt. On his nose is a large horn. His eyes have glowing red irises that burn brighter when he gets angry. He is covered in deep blue scales.

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: Arashi is cunning and intuitive, able to devise strategies and adapt to changing conditions or fighting styles. He knows his own powers well and when he should, or should not, use a particular power. He also has a strong curiosity streak and will usually start out a fight getting a feel for his opponent before fully committing himself to a battle. Once he does, Arashi looks for weak spots or general weaknesses and won’t hesitate to exploit them once he finds one. He does this to end the fight as quickly as possible, not out of any type of mean streak. He doesn’t care about playing fair, only defeating his opponent.

However, if Arashi loses control of himself to the evil essence of King Ghidorah that lies within his very DNA, he’ll become a cruel, sadistic killer and his intelligence will lower. In this state, he cares only about the kill and will attack anything he sees as a threat, heedless of the damage he might open himself up to. He still has access to all of his powers, but his use of them will be more random. For Arashi to lose control it usually takes a lot of damage coupled with outside hostile stimuli or some kind of event that triggers a feral memory. The chances of him losing control are lessened if Saeko Chen is with him.

Outside of battle, Arashi displays an indifferent or hostile attitude towards most humans. He sees the human race as undeserving of inheriting the Earth after all the harm they've done to it, but also recognizes that not all humans are the same. Towards other kaiju, Arashi is a lot more tolerant, and even protective.

HISTORY: Arashi is a manmade creature grown and modified from the cells of one of the most powerful kaiju ever known, King Ghidorah. Ghidorah was chosen over Godzilla because the golden demon showed a greater willingness to be mind controlled than Godzilla. Godzilla was also vetoed because it was felt that any kaiju grown from the King of Monsters could possibly mutate to escape being controlled. Likewise, it was decided not to try and mind control King Ghidorah because of the kaiju’s inherent evilness.

A U.S. government backed team of scientists, led by Professor Hikaru Chen, extensively modified Ghidorah’s DNA to create Arashi and make the kaiju a force that would be able to hold it’s own against any kaiju threat, be it living or super robot. Great pains were taken to purge this new monster of Ghidorah’s evil essence, but as hard as they tried, they could not wipe out every last trace.

Instead, a plan was undertaken to make Arashi intelligent enough to fight this lingering essence on his own. The last step in finishing Arashi was to electronically ‘train his brain’ beyond the feral instincts of a lot of other kaiju. In the process they would also put in the commands that would make Arashi the perfect puppet for fighting kaiju.

However, before this training could be completed, another kaiju created by a disgruntled scientist attacked the facility to try and kill Arashi before the kajiu could wake up for the first time. The attack destroyed the computers that were training Arashi and it also succeeded in waking the dragon up. The training managed to make him intelligent, but it didn’t last long enough to put in the mind control commands.

Awake for the first time, Arashi swiftly destroyed the attacking kaiju and the rogue scientist and then proceeded to go on a rampage. Fed by the feral memories he possessed from Ghidorah, Arashi sought out Ghidorah’s old nemesis, Godzilla, and proceeded to battle him. Only the intervention of Mothra succeeded in stopping the fight and restoring Arashi’s more intelligent mindset.

Since then, Arashi has been a reliable, if dangerous, defender of the Earth.

Cool King Kong: Lord of Skull Island

Here is a redo of an old favorite of mine: the 1933 version of King Kong. Long live the king!

---

NAME: King Kong

KAIJU TYPE: Mammal - Gorilla - Primal Deity

POWERS: Kong is a true primal god and thus cannot ever truly be killed. His powers might be considered dull compared to some of the more vibrant kaiju, but in Kong’s case, less is more. *

Balance - The basic premise behind this is that it gives Kong the ability to be on equal ground with any opponent he might face.

It causes him to adapt to be better suited to fighting whoever his opponent might be. In most cases, it simply improves his resistance to deadly force, such as Godzilla’s ray. If he fights one monster for an extended period of time, he gains limited powers tailored to that monster’s weaknesses (i.e. the electric attacks he used on Godzilla).

As far as bestowing resistances, Balance is fairly fast acting in this respect, able to adapt Kong’s body after only a handful of attacks made against him. The resistance he gets is only tailored to repel that level of intensity of attack. If Kong were to be continually attacked by Godzilla’s ray, he would eventually become immune to it, but if Godzilla were to resort to his spiral red ray, Kong would become injured by it even though both rays are the same type of energy.

The beneficial effects of Balance fade over time and some effects last longer than others do. Kong’s very un-ape-like ability to attack with electricity faded a mere day after his battle with Godzilla. However, his resistances tend to stay with him for as long as two weeks after the fight provided he doesn’t battle anything within that time.

Balance mostly works against elemental attacks like radiation, electricity, poison, etc, etc… Physical damage done with claws and the like can still hurt Kong without Balance giving him any advantages.

Incredible Strength - Kong is a muscled behemoth. ‘Nuff said.

Incredible Agility - Kong is warm blooded and thus can naturally keep moving at a greater speed than many of the more reptilian kaiju. His bulk isn’t held up only by his legs, so he isn’t as hampered by his weight as much as a kaiju like Godzilla is.

Ape-like Intelligence - While not as smart as a human, Kong is a thinking animal. His relative brain size is greater than just about any other kaiju out there.

Rebirth - As long as Skull Island exists, Kong can never truly die.

Every time his physical body dies, he is reborn on a sacred spot on Skull Island. When reborn into a new body, Kong retains all the memories he had in his past life.

During these rebirths, Kong is occasionally reborn in a larger, tougher body to help keep him alive for longer periods of time. These special rebirths do not require Kong to die first, but there must be extraordinary circumstances for them to occur while he is still alive. *

Affinity for Skull Island: The mystical properties of Skull Island are what sustain Kong, and the closer he is to his island home, the stronger he becomes. When on his home turf, he is virtually unbeatable.

WEAKNESSES: Until he builds up a resistance of some sort, Kong is vulnerable to just about every type of weapon there is. His hide is considerably tougher than it was in 1933, but the protection it affords him is only really effective against military weapons.

Kong has also developed an affinity for human women for reasons that aren’t altogether clear. He has been known to place himself in great danger just to rescue a woman he has grown attached to.

Also, if Skull Island is somehow destroyed, Kong will not be able to be reborn and thus will truly die if killed. *

HEIGHT (Currently): 95 Meters Tall

WEIGHT (Currently): 57,500 tons

APPEARANCE: Kong looks much as he did in the 1930’s, only he is far larger. He basically just looks like a very big, black furred gorilla.

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: King Kong is highly intelligent and can generally outwit most kaiju.

Despite this, Kong is still very much a savage animal and prefers to attack his foes the traditional way. If for some reason his physical attacks aren’t working, then Kong will try using his intelligence to defeat his enemy.

Kong can be relentless and wily all in the same battle, it all depends on what works the best.

HISTORY: King Kong’s history is as shrouded in mystery as his Skull Island home is. It is generally assumed that Kong started out life as a normal sized gorilla who had been born on Skull Island. For some reason, the mystical energies of Skull Island made Kong its chosen defender. From those humble beginnings, Kong has risen to become the king of the island.

Aside from the times when he is taken from his island home by ignorant humans, the only time Kong leaves Skull Island is to satisfy his own curiosity or to fight a monster of some sort. When fighting monsters, Kong generally leaves most of the battles to Godzilla, Mothra, or one of the other numerous Japanese kaiju. If he is truly needed, however, then he will leave to do battle.

With the alien Demions threatening to eradicate all life on Earth, Kong has had to leave his home more and more often to save the inhabitants of the planet.

Kong is probably one of the oldest Earth kaiju alive.

I must say...

Most impressive Halomek. This is done very well; I especially like the way you describe the monsters. It catalogues very neatly their abilities.
I'm also impressed by Kong. The history and such given him is excellent and I am must congratulate you. Can't help but wonder what else we might see.

My take on Gabara will be the next kaiju posted here. Some people might consider him to be a lame kaiju, but I saw possibilities...

---

As for Kong, thank you for the compliments. I actually still have a bit of fine-tuning to do on him. For example: why does he have a thing for human women? I have yet to find a good reason for it, but it is just part of who Kong is as we know and love him, so in it went.

Whenever I redo an established kaiju, I always look to see what he is essentially about and then build on it from there.

For example, giving Kong a beam of some kind would just be an insult to Kong. *However, he really needed a way to seriously compete with more modern-day monsters, so 'Balance' and ‘Rebirth’ were eventually thought up. I think they compliment who Kong is very nicely.

And some of you might be asking yourselves, if Kong is continually reincarnated, what about Son of Kong?

Son of Kong exists, but he differs from his old man in a few ways - to be explained on a later post.

So, Gabara is next... ( = * ) *

Cool Gabara: Demon of Dreams

And here is my take on Gabara.

---

NAME: Gabara

KAIJU TYPE: Ogre - Demon - Evil Manifestation

POWERS: Gabara is not physically part of this world and so the extent of his powers is not fully known. Here are a few of the better known ones:

Incorporeal/Corporeal Form - Gabara can only exist in this world by drawing on mental energy. The more his host focuses on him, the more real he becomes, allowing him to physically affect the world around him. Likewise, to avoid getting hit, his host can focus less and cause any incoming attacks to pass through Gabara. A truly skilled host can cause only parts of Gabara to become corporeal or incorporeal.

Psionic Lightning - Gabara can unleash bolts of energy from his hands that do physical as well as mental damage to his victims. The mental damage he deals is only temporary, but while Gabara is frying someone, he can induce hallucinations, blackouts, or invoke feelings of fear and dread. The higher an organism’s intelligence, the more likely the mental damage is to leave permanent scars of insanity - if the aren’t killed outright by the physical aspect of the lightning.

Gabara can only use this ability when touching another being. It has no range. *

Mental Teleportation - Without a physical body to hinder him, Gabara can appear anywhere if his host knows the area well enough. Also, if his host is especially talented, Gabara can use this ability to ‘blink’ around a battlefield. Essentially, there is nowhere you can run to escape from Gabara.

Mental Projection - The body of Gabara that appears in this reality is not his actual physical body. Instead it is only a form of mental projection. Weapons can affect it, but they can’t actual damage the projection as it possesses nothing than can be hurt. This renders Gabara effectively invulnerable to physical attacks. *

WEAKNESSES: Despite being seemingly invincible, Gabara does have one huge weakness that will defeat him instantly. He can only exist in this world by relying on a host to bridge the gap between our reality and his. If that host is incapacitated or killed, he will fade from our world.

Gabara also does not come into this world cheap. The mental energy required to draw him into our reality will prematurely age his host over time. Also, if his host is killed, Gabara will take the host’s soul; his mental power; his essence; whatever you choose to call it, and bring it back with him to his reality to forever become a part of him before he fades from sight.

HEIGHT: 108 Meters Tall

WEIGHT (Fully Corporeal): 35,300 tons.

APPEARANCE: Gabara looks just like he is depicted in Godzilla’s Revenge. *

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: Gabara knows he is effectively invincible in this world, and filled with that knowledge, he is very sadistic when it comes to fighting. Sometimes he will play games of cat and mouse with his victims to prolong their suffering. Other times he will let the enemy attack him and then laugh when they realize nothing they try will work.

Rarely does he go for the quick kill. Suffering and destruction are all he cares about. *

HISTORY: How Gabara came into existence, no one can say for sure. How long he has been around is another question that no one can answer. It is thought that depictions of giant demons in ancient legends are actually referring to other times in the Earth’s history when Gabara has crossed realities.

Gabara exists in another dimension and not much is known about it. The only way Gabara can usually bridge that gap is by appearing in dreams and fantasies. In this state, Gabara is actually much weaker than if he is brought into the world by a host because in dreams and fantasies, he has to fight against the mental power of whoever’s dreams he’s invading.

Because he so frequently invades dreams it has lent the people who summon him to mistakenly believe that they created him with their imagination. Gabara does nothing to correct this falsehood, but instead tells those he invades how to summon him, reading their mind to tell if they are capable of the feat.

Since Gabara’s body is always in another reality, his threat to the Earth may never be ended.

It's obvious that you put a lot of thought into your kaiju and I must say that they are among the best I have read about. I remember reading Kaiju Apocalypse before the site crashed (the memories have come back by reading your monster descriptions) and I can't wait for the rest of it to be put up. Your new kaiju are innovative and impressive, yet not made to be ridiculously powerful, which often happens in some fanfics. The kaiju that you re-do are tweaked in ways that suit them as we already knew them. They are still recognisable and I actually think that most of them are at least as good as the originals, which is very hard to do in any aspect of life (look at most cover versions of songs&#33 I look forward to reading the rest of Kaiju Apocalypse and hope that you continue to write kaiju fanfics.

Cool Challenger: The Savage Saurian

And now for some of the smaller, but no less impressive, kaiju. The first up is Challenger, who can perhaps be considered the very first rampaging giant monster ever.

Note: I know the proper term is Apatosaurus, but I refer to Challenger as a Brontosaurus in honor of the fact that that was what he was called during his early days.

---

NAME: Challenger

This monster has been named in honor of Professor Challenger, the man who found the Lost World in 1925 and brought back a live Brontosaurus.

KAIJU TYPE: Dinosaur

POWERS:

Conflicting Energy – Inside of Challenger, two very ancient and very different powers reside throughout his body. Initially, Challenger was a resident of the Lost World and the ancient plateau’s life energies are what sustained his body. However, since coming to Skull Island, Challenger has also absorbed some of the island’s darker, more savage and feral energy.

These two energies, almost a representation of yin and yang, are continually warring with each other. The reaction to this mystic battle is what has caused Challenger’s body to mutate into its current incarnation. These changes are guided, involuntarily, by Challenger’s already aggressive nature.

Although mutating Challenger’s body is only the visible effect that the conflicting energies have caused, no one can say for sure what else this unique struggle might do if provided to the right stimuli.

Razor Sharp Teeth – As the mystical energies have affected the rest of Skull Island’s living inhabitants into savage creatures, so to has it affected Challenger. The Brontosaur’s teeth, at one time suited for munching on plant life, have become shaped to that of a carnivore to suit his new life. The bite can through cut through even the toughest metals, to say nothing of enemy skin. *

Armored Skin – Even back during Denham’s expedition, Challenger’s skin was tough enough to repel small arms fire. Decades of being exposed to his conflicting energy has only strengthened this defense to incredible levels. This armored skin is roughly parallel to the scales of King Ghidorah.

Whiplike and Clublike Tail – Although Challenger isn’t that agile, his long tail can be used as an effective and heavy whip/club. Challenger’s tail can be swung literally with bone crushing force.

Hyper Immunity – The innards of Challenger, once suited for consuming vast amounts of plant matter, have been warped to serve other needs now that he is primarily a carnivore. Since a less complicated digestive system is all he needs now, the mystic energies inside of him have turned these ambulatory organs to better purposes. They can now absorb and break down all matter of disease, toxin, or any other harmful substance that might enter Challenger’s body, making him effectively immune to substances that would give much larger kaiju trouble.

WEAKNESSES: Challenger has no ranged attacks and has to rely on his armored skin to protect him until he can get close enough to attack his opponents. * * *

His long neck is also the weakest part on his body.

HEIGHT:

-81 Meters Long
-13.8 Meters Tall (at shoulder)

WEIGHT: 105 tons.

APPEARANCE: For the most part, Challenger looks like the common depiction of a Brontosaurus as seen in Paleontology books. His skin however is now almost completely obsidian from the changes caused from the conflicting energies inside of him. His fang-filled mouth is another indicator that sets him apart from others of his species. * *

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: Challenger very much lives up to the essence of his name. He will not hesitate to attack upon even the slightest provocation and will not let up until his enemy is dead before him.

He is like an armored juggernaut. Unyielding, unstoppable, and undeniable. *

HISTORY: Originally a simple Brontosaurus living in a plateau known as the Lost World, for an herbivore Challenger was excessively violent. He refused to back down from even the fiercest predators, and would often attack his enemies by going right for the throat. He was eventually brought to England by his namesake, Professor Challenger, as proof that dinosaurs were still alive.

Challenger (the dinosaur) escaped and rampaged through the city before making his way to the ocean and swimming away. It is assumed that Challenger swam back to the Lost World and was never seen again, but it turns out he ended up on Skull Island. The mystical energies affected Challenger by making him even more feral than he used to be. By the time Carl Denham made his famous expedition to Skull Island, Challenger had turned into a full-blooded carnivore. It was he who ambushed and decimated Denham’s party in the swamp.

The conflicting energies inside of Challenger have warped his body to make him the dominate predator on Skull Island, with the notable exception of Kong himself. Challenger has grown to be roughly three times the size of a normal Brontosaurus since 1925, and shows no signs of stopping his continued growth.

This mix of energies has also given Challenger an exceptionally long life. He doesn’t seem to have aged that much since his rampage through England way back in 1925. As the years continue to pass, it is assumed that Challenger will further mutate and change to suit his own aggressive nature, becoming more and more dangerous.

This unique chemistry inside of Challenger has also aroused the interests of several groups, some who wish to study him more in-depth and others who just wish to take advantage of it. So far neither side has had much luck in finding Skull Island, or if they do, surviving the island’s many dangers and discovering a way to capture Challenger.

---

And so there is my homage to the original Lost World, as well as another nod of respect towards the original King Kong.

The next kaiju to be posted will be Son of Kong.

I am most impressed by the idea of Challenger. He is a fine monster and a fine tip of the hat to the lost world. It is also very nice how you were able to interweave Lost World with King Kong. This also serves to explain some thing that always puzzled me about Kong. Denham and the men see a stegosaur near the start and aren't as amazed as you'd think they'd be. In this storyverse, that's explained away because the world already knew about dinosaurs.

It was once said on this site that we shoud remember the brontosaurus.* He may not have been the first kaiju (Godzilla is the Tokyo's original terror) or the first giant monster (Kong has that one) but he was the first "Creature on the loose." Hail to the brontosaurus!

*Consoidering the fame that Challenger would have, the name brontosaurus would have stuck no matter what.

I look forward to the (former-Gwangi's dead) Valley of Gwangi addition, as well as your take on the Son of Kong. Challenger is, IMO, the best one yet. Keep up the good work (but don't overwork)!

Cool Mangani: The Son of Kong

Alright, here it is, the much awaited stats for Son of Kong. As you can probably tell from the length of the bio, he’s one of the monsters that I’ve labored over longer than some others - almost as much as Arashi.

---

NAME: Son of Kong a.k.a. Mangani

Seeing as Kong’s son was never given a name (at least that I remember), I had to find something to call him other than ‘Son of Kong’, so I opted for Mangani. Mangani, for those who don’t know, is the language of the Great Apes in Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan novels (mangani also means Great Ape). Calling Son of Kong Mangani seemed like an appropriate homage.

I would’ve called him Tarmangani, (‘tar’ meaning white in mangani), if not for the fact that tarmangani already refers to humans.

I had thought briefly about calling him Kong Jr., but that had me thinking of Donkey Kong Jr. and that’s the last primate I want people to think of when they think of the son of Kong.

Little Kong was another name I briefly toyed with, but it seemed to lack respect for the ape who was the progeny of Kong himself.

KAIJU TYPE: Mammal – Gorilla – Mystical Being

POWERS: Mangani has many of the same physical powers as Kong, but his more mystical aspects differ from that of his father.

Incredible Strength - Like his dad, the son of Kong has muscles on top of his muscles. He’s a brawler who more than lives up to the Kong name.

Incredible Agility - The same deal as Kong. Mangani benefits from the fact that apes are just built to be agile: certainly more so than most giant monsters out there.

Ape-like Intelligence - If anything, Mangani is smarter than his dad is. He understands humans better and can communicate with them better. He also displays the same cunning that Kong does in his fights.

Aspect of Life - Being connected to the flow of life itself, Mangani has been granted virtual immortality. As long as some life exists on the Earth, Kong’s son will never die. Life will find a way to revive him.

The aspect of life also grants Mangani with an interesting approach to regeneration. The more grievous the wounds Mangani receives, the faster he heals himself. For example: a major chest wound would start to heal very fast, but as the healing process continued and the wound became less serious, the healing factor would slow down until it was up to Mangani’s normal ape physiology to heal the remnant.

Being linked to the very aspect of life, there are undoubtedly other abilities that Mangani possesses that he has not yet learned or displayed.

Non-Threatening Aura - Only the most savage or determined monsters are able to bring themselves to attack Mangani at close range. He projects an aura that calms the mental state of others and causes predators to avoid him on instinct. These feelings fade the further away they are from him. The aura completely surrounds Mangani and is projected without any effort of his own. * *

Affinity for Life - Much like how the energy of Skull Island supports Kong, so to does the energy of life support his son. In areas were there is a greater concentration of life, Mangani’s mystical abilities will increase. In areas of death and decay, his mystical abilities will decrease.

WEAKNESSES: Mangani lacks that aggressive edge for which his father is so famous. He’s not quite as cutthroat about fighting as Kong is and will often give his enemies a chance to escape or retreat.

Any number of means can also hurt him, as he doesn’t posses any resistances of any kind. *

If Mangani is in a place where there is a complete lack of life, his mystical powers will be noticeably weakened.

HEIGHT: 55 Meters Tall (He’s grown some since 1933)

WEIGHT: 625 tons.

APPEARANCE: Mangani looks like Kong only his hair is white and his countenance is much softer than Kong’s fierce appearance.

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: Mangani is very clever at fighting, and his style is closely related to that of Kong’s. He doesn’t fight, however, unless there is something in need of protecting. Usually he will just leave rather than trying to assert himself.

He is much friendlier to people than Kong is and could be called benevolent without too much of a stretch. *

HISTORY: In days long past, the native peoples of Skull Island were similar in advancement to those of the ancient Inca or the Maya. They had constructed huge temples and knew a great deal about magic and the nature of the dangerous land they lived on. They were able to protect themselves from the fierce dinosaurs and other monsters by employing mystic wards around their great city that the creatures instinctively avoided.

Their luck was soon to change however, as the mystic forces that guided Skull Island apparently grew tired of the natives claiming more and more land, subsequently upsetting a natural balance. It was at that point that Kong was imbued with his abilities and became the king and protector of the island.

Kong’s initial transformation made him twice the size of a man, and with his power Kong set out to teach the islanders the folly of defying nature by rampaging through their great city. The natives soon grew to fear Kong, for although he could be killed, he couldn't truly be stopped. Everything was tried to stop him, but in the end nothing worked, and sometimes Kong would come back even larger than before.

The islanders were steadily pushed back as they fought a losing battle. Their last great witch doctor then came upon a plan to fight fire with fire. Traveling alone, the witch doctor ventured into the dangerous jungles of Skull Island in search of Kong’s tribe, and in particular any descendents he might have left before becoming Skull Island’s protector.

After nearly half a year, the witch doctor finally found Kong’s troop on a secluded part of the island that the larger creatures couldn’t access. Using his mystical divination, the witch doctor was able to tell with certainty that these apes were in the same family as Kong. Using that same divination, the witch doctor discovered the ape that was Kong’s first son. The ape was, unsurprisingly enough, the current leader of the tribe.

Using a spell, the witch doctor put the entire tribe of apes to sleep. Then, knowing that he would never be able to make it back to the city towing a gorilla with him, the witch doctor began an elaborate and complicated ceremony on that spot. Drawing from his life energies, as well as those of the sleeping apes, the witch doctor infused Kong’s son with their power and his.

This infusion not only drained the witch doctor of his life, as well as the apes, but it also had other immediate effects. The son of Kong grew to match the size of Kong at the time, and his hair, black before, was now turned white. For the witch doctor had given the son of Kong the purest magic he knew of, that of life itself. The last thought that the witch doctor drilled into the son of Kong was to protect the people. *

With that directive in his mind, and his newfound powers, the son of Kong was able to drive off his father and save the few remaining natives from being utterly wiped out. In gratitude of their savior, the islanders named him Mangani, which meant ‘great ape’ and/or ‘great savior’ in their language.

Mangani was even able to prevent Kong from returning to destroy them by having the islanders satiate Kong by offering him a sacrifice at certain times of the year. As long as the natives kept offering a sacrifice, Kong would spare them. He would not, however, allow them to ever expand beyond the border the natives still had left. A great wall was constructed along that border to mark the agreement. The enormous doors that were built into the massive wall were intended to allow the benevolent Mangani to enter their village but keep out the abundant dangers of Skull Island (Kong included).

Over the years, Mangani has grown to be the protector of life on Skull Island, as Kong is the protector of the island itself. A fine line divides their duties, but it is pronounced enough to make a difference. In particular Mangani tries to look out for the weaker forms of life on Skull Island, such as the natives or smaller animals who would have a tough time surviving without a little help.

Mangani has never left Skull Island, and it is doubtful he ever will, unless forced. He has become a protector immortal. While his father does tend to overshadow him, the son of King Kong is very much respected in his own right.

---

And that's him in a nutshell.

I see! It seems that I have a bit of competition as the mad monster maker!

Anyways, Mangani is an amazing monster and very well executed. As always, I'm very impressed by the effort put into this monster and am amazed at how well you were able to expand on the idea while still keeping it within the original parimters. (Indeed, this profiles are the very best I've ever seen.) I am especially amazed at how well you are using Skull Island. Mangani is a fine creature, and I hope to see him soon.

P.S. Mangani recieved his name because the son of Kong never had a name. As I recall, the Crestwood Kong book called him "Kiko." However, Crestwood also made the infamous Godzilla book that called the King green, 400 feet tall, and that the big fight with Kong had two endings; so we should be careful.

P.P.S. Dear Halomek, as I recall, you once said that Skull Island was never destroyed as seen in "Son of Kong." Does that mean that "Son of Kong" never happened, or did only parts of it not happen?

In that case, I'm inclined to take pretty much anything Crestwood says as false information. Although I may yet work the name 'Kiko' in somehow, if I find a good way to integrate it. *

As for the question on the movie Son of Kong and how it happens... it pretty much follows the plot word for word. However, as I have it end, the island doesn't blow up and Denham manages to get away with the money he needs to pay off his debts. Skull Island just has too much potential to let it die that way.

Anyway, as much as I love Skull Island, we're going to move away from it as I focus on some other kaiju. The next two redos that will be posted are actually connected in a way.

* & * are coming...

Cool Gossamer: Speed and Beauty

Well, I lied, & aren’t next. Instead I came up with another original. Let’s see what you all think of this one…

---

NAME: Gossamer

KAIJU TYPE: Bird – Hummingbird - Mutant

POWERS: Gossamer draws her strength from the sun and other sources of radiation. Because her body works so fast, she has to actually store energy to perform energy attacks.

Diamond Hard Beak - By far the toughest part of Gossamer, when combined with her incredible speed, her beak can penetrate even the toughest armors.

Super Speed - Gossamer’s powerful little body can reach speeds up to Mach 9, which allows her to reach troubles spots on the globe with little delay.

Super Maneuverability - Gossamer is such an aerodynamic wonder that she can stop on a dime, even at the greatest speeds. All she has to do to change directions is stop for a second, change her bearing, and zip off again.

Sonic Vibrations - Working on the same principle as Megaguirus’s ability, Gossamer’s wings beat at such an incredible speed and vibration that they play havoc with electronics and shatterable materials, such as glass. *

Hyper Immunity - Gossamer’s body works on a much faster level than normal kaiju. She can overcome poisons, viruses, bacteria, and other harmful substances with incredible speed.

Solar Beam - A powerful cutting beam that can melt through the toughest materials in a matter of seconds. To use it Gossamer must power up, either by soaking up the sun’s rays, or taking in another concentrated source of radiation. The longer she powers up, the longer she can use the ray. The beam is emitted from her mouth.

Solar Explosion - Gossamer can collect an enormous amount of energy until she is unable to soak up anything more. Then she can release it all at once and create a massive explosion. This energy that is released is also extremely radioactive. This expulsion of energy leaves Gossamer on the edge of death.

Then, comatose, Gossamer’s body will automatically soak up the fallout and slowly revive her. Once Gossamer is fully revived, all traces of the fallout will be gone.

WEAKNESSES: Gossamer is very weak against any kind of physical damage and has to rely on her incredible speed and maneuverability to avoid attacks.

Also, she has to charge herself with solar energy, or another concentrated source of radiation, to perform her energy attacks. This means that after an energy attack, she’ll have to absorb more energy before performing another. The power she soaks up from the sun is only enough to sustain her body. To power up her energy beyond sustenance, she has to remain hovering in one spot.

Being primarily an air combatant, if caught on the ground, Gossamer is very slow and easily overtaken.

And last, but not least, because she is so dependent on the sun’s energy, Gossamer is considerably weaker at night. On nights when there is no moon, she must hibernate until morning.

HEIGHT: 55 Meters Tall

WEIGHT: 10,000 Tons

APPEARANCE: A giant version of a hummingbird. Brilliant glittering green feathers cover most of her body. Her throat feathers are coated in a metallic blue. On her head, there is a stripe of bright red. A long, thin, beak adorns her face. Her wings are always a blur of motion.

COMBAT STYLE/PERSONALITY: Gossamer, while normally a docile creature, will not hesitate to attack even the largest of opponents. She flits about, attacking from all angles, and can literally fly circles around any other kaiju.

While she has come to be a defender of the Earth, Gossamer is not above sacrificing a few for the greater good.

Despite her dependence on the sun’s energy and radiation, Gossamer is not outwardly radioactive. Her body works so fast that the radioactive energy can’t escape her body.

HISTORY: Originally a regular hummingbird that lived around an experimental solar plant, when the plant exploded mysteriously it mutated Gossamer into her current incarnation. Although nothing could ever be proven about the accident, sabotage was suspected to be behind the destruction.

Even though she is relatively new to the era of kaiju, Gossamer has quickly proven herself to be one of the Earth’s most trusted and dedicated guardians. A small religion has formed around her, much as it has for Mothra. In fact there is some friction between the two groups as they argue between the differing methods Mothra and Gossamer use to protect the people of the Earth.

I'm not sure if that is the name of the Looney Toons hair monster or not, but the word gossamer means something like: fragile or delicate.

And you gotta admit, a hummingbird is certainly one of the more unique kaiju ideas around.

A hummingbird? It is rather unique... I'm just a bit taken aback because we usually associate giant monsters with beasts all big and bad. Dinosaurs, giant insects, killer apes, etc. But it could work. the comparison to Mothra is rather accurate as she herself is a creature of love and beauty.
One thing, there was another Giant Hummingbird as seen in the "Godzilla," or Gino, cartoon.
A description of the episode is found on Godzilla Saga website. [Annoying self rightous tone of site=flame suits needed. Take database with grain of salt] Sooo:
Quote:

Worst of all, this mutant avian species of kaiju are able to render themselves invisible via the hummingbird trait of flapping their wings faster than any other bird species in the world [in real life, hummingbirds can indeed flap their wings faster than any other type of bird, and are also the only ornithological species that can easily hover in place or fly backwards]. As a result of their ability to cloak themselves so as to be invisible to the unaided eye, Godzilla is unable to see the creatures in order to attack them.
However, Randy and Craven work together to build an enormous visor that, when worn by Godzilla, focuses his vision so that he is able to perceive the mutant hummingbirds when cloaked, thus enabling him to successfully attack and defeat them.

Comments: This episode featured an intriguing foe for the Kaiju King, and the simultaneously silly and wonderful idea of his having to wear a specialized pair of goggles to accomplish a mission was reminiscent of the Big G in the "Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley" commercial several years earlier, and one must wonder if the latter small screen gem had any influence on the writers who composed the script for this episode
 Life imitating art. Woaza.

Turning invisible, eh? That is an odd twist for a hummingbird and it has at least one logic flaw. Only the wings beat that fast, so why would the whole bird turn invisible? I know, I know, logic and kaiju don’t always mix, but I try to install some logic in all my kaiju.

I never put much stock in GINO, but it is interesting to know that a hummingbird was tried before. I’ll admit that was a bit of forward thinking on the cartoon’s part.

As for why I chose a hummingbird… When it comes to kaiju, I like uniqueness over baditude. Anybody can make the next death incarnate, or Godzilla clone, but it takes a little something extra to come up with a truly unique working kaiju.

You’d be surprised how many awesome species are alive right now in the animal kingdom that only need slight tweaking to make them into serious kaiju. Point in fact, when I was originally looking for something speedy, I first started with the tiger beetle which is pound for pound pretty much the fastest animal alive today. It runs so fast that it’s vision can’t keep up with the speed, so it’s forced to dart around to keep it’s bearings. The cheetah doesn’t even come close to that (although it is another favorite of mine). I eventually put the tiger beetle in the ‘maybe later’ pile because there were a few issues with it I felt needed to be ironed out.

---

Anyway & are going to be put off yet again as I post one of Arashi’s most deadly enemies. As I see it all heroes really have two arch-foes: the all-powerful foe and the foe who attacks the hero on a more personal level.

For example, you take Batman. The Joker would be considered Batman’s true nemesis, but the Joker certainly isn’t the most powerful foe Batman has ever faced. You’ve got people like Bane who could fill that role.

The same is true for Arashi. Being the spawn of King Ghidorah, Arashi will forever be at odds with his erstwhile father, but King Ghidorah is not the most powerful foe Arashi will face. This isn’t to say that Ghidorah isn’t a major threat on his own, but there are more powerful kaiju out there. For Arashi, his most dangerous opponent is Vordi: Scourge of the Dimensions.

Yes, you’ll all see my original death incarnate, but as per my usual preference, he’s also fairly unique. Vordi is one evil piece of work and his creation dates back almost as far as Arashi. The bio should be up within the next few days.

Actually, Batman's most powerful foe is Ra's Al Ghul.
