When you say released do you mean fired? Was a reason given?(Insubordination or did they just decide that his character wasn't a big enough draw)Good lord I haven't even watched in months, almost a year in fact, I have no clue what is even going on anymore. I've been too busy watching Samoa Joe kill people in TNA.

I haven't heard an official reason, but my theory is that Boogeyman was only supposed to be a midcard attraction, yet ended up being more popular then many of WWE's current main events, which makes the current champions look bad. It certainly doesn't help that he went cleanly over the current Smackdown champion at Wrestlemania...

Can't have that, so he got the ax.

Inside News On Why The Boogeyman Was Released
Submitted by Daniel Pena on September 20, 2006 - 4:50pm.
Posted In: News
[Previous Article] - [Next Article] source: PWInsider.com

As reported earlier, WWE released The Boogeyman (Marty Wright) this afternoon. The release was a bit of surprise since they had been pushing his return on Smackdown relatively hard up until a few weeks ago when it was abruptly forgotten. The reason he was let go was because he upset management.

Wright had been out of action since April due to bicep injury. WWE officials weren't pleased with his commitment - or lack thereof - to get into better physical condition during rehab. The feeling was that he was doing the bare minimum in regards to getting back into shape. Also, he missed several doctor checkups in which he was supposed to go to. Management warned him about this on a few occasions, and when he didn't change his behavior, they decided to let him go.

Wright got his foot in the door via Tough Enough 4 in October 2004. He was kicked out of the competition for lying about his age, but WWE decided to give him a developmental contract two months later anyways. He developed his "Boogeyman" persona in Ohio Valley Wrestling during the summer of 2005. He appeared on a few Smackdown house shows, but he hyperextended both knees, thus delaying his television debut. The Boogeyman finally made his TV debut in October 2005. He stalked a bunch of people, ate worms and soundly defeated several lower card wrestlers before feuding with JBL and Booker T. During the week prior to Wrestlemania 22, The Boogeyman tore his left biceps during a warm-up house show match with Booker T. There was some thought given to cancelling the match, but it ultimately took place and he defeated Booker T & Sharmell in a handicap match in what would ultimately be his last appearance in WWE. A few days later, Wright was put back on the injured list as he had to have surgery to repair his left biceps tear. Several vignettes were shown on Smackdown during the last month and half to hype his return, but that's obviously off the cards now. The Boogeyman went undefeated throughout his entire time in WWE.

On a side note, I've seen bits and pieces of TNA lately and it beats the crap out of WWE. If only they could get a better timeslot and become more popular.

Wow, that is messed up. Going from being a guy who got kicked off of Tough Enough to actually developing a character that actually appears and gets used on TV, only to screw it all up because he didn't want to make the best of his rehab? That's just sad, perhaps Wright didn't want it as bad as he thought he did?

As for TNA, yea, I've been on their bandwagon for a while now. IMHO they still need work in their heavyweight ranks as far as contenders and match quality but the X division is where the real action is. I am kinda sad that Samoa Joe left the X division, but I gotta admit it's allot of fun to watch him pound on the heavyweights. I just picked up their latest DVD release, Slammiversary, which is the 4 year anniversary of TNA and got to watch Samoa Joe beat Scott Steiner within an inch of his steroid irradiated life heh heh.

Holy Hell, Kurt Angle signed with TNA? I didn't even know he was released from the WWE!

Oh and I think TNA would get major ratings if they signed Jet Jaguar.

I've known this since Sunday, but it's still awesome. Honestly, I'm starting to really enjoy TNA. Gimicks suck, but their wrestling in ten times that of WWE. I hope it continues to get more and more popular, because then WWE may finally get their heads out of their asses and start putting on quality shows.

WOW! Getting Kurt Angle is huge! I thought he was retiring earlier in the year due to injury and that was the general feeling but now that he going to pop up on TNA is really surprising. Vince must be feeling really miffed about this, and now that TNA is going to be on for two hours they will definately be a threat.

I see this as a good thing, now the WWE will have to step up and improve their programming or else.

This is great news! Prime time TNA and Kurt Angle? Huge! I thought Angle said he was taking time off to heal his injuries only about a month or two ago. I'm surprised he hasn't with all he's put his body through on a constant basis. Now that I think of it, Christian made a similar move when he said he needed to take a break from wrestling and he went right to TNA. This is a real surprise!

By the way, did anyone see the sick gash Hardcore Holly got across his back after suplexing RVD on that table on ECW last night?

^ It was the first real hardcore match that ECW has had since it returned. Which is pretty sad considering that it's been airing for over three months now.

Stupid WWE, let Heyman take control, you don't know how to run it well.

Supposedly that was a really bad injury, Holly needed stitches or something, it cut nearly to the bone. He fought for nearly ten minutes AFTER taking that! I'd say Holly truly deserves the Hardcore moniker.

Smackdown has some good things going for it with Benoit back and Kane being brought over. You know what that means- the Brothers of Destruction are back together again! The Boogeyman also got rehired.

Now on DVD, TNA wrestling's 'The Best Of The X Division, volume 2'.

http://www.amazon.com/Tna-Wrestling-...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

I've said it before and I'll say it again, even if you don't watch TNA, even if you are a hardcore WWE supporter, if you are a fan of pro wrestling at all for any reason, you must behold TNA's X Division!

And even though I have included a link to Amazon above(more for informative purposes than anything else, one of the reviewers gives a match listing), select Wal-marts have a DVD two pack with both volumes 1 and 2 of 'Best of the X Division' for $20 bucks! If you buy either of these by themselves you will easily be paying that much for them in singles if not more.

Take it from me, it's fantastic wrestling action as only the X Division can deliver and at one hell of a price tag to boot. Witness the raw power of Samoa Joe, the uncanny and mindblowing skills of AJ Styles and the most amazing finishing move in the history of the sport, Petey Williams and his Canadian Destroyer piledriver! This and so much more!

**********

On a side note...

Sunday night was TNA's Genesis pay per view, which saw Kurt Angle square off against Samoa Joe. Angle beat him with an ankle lock after a brutal match. Samoa Joe's year and a half undefeated streak in TNA has finally ended.

Did anyone see the Hardy Boyz vs. the FBI on ECW last night? The match was incredible. Right now the Hardys and Undertaker and Kane are my only reason for watching anything WWE-related anymore.

I feel sorry for Monty Brown for signing with WWE. He'll be stuck with a lame gimmick and get the "Steiner treatment".

It's just as well I suppose, his character in TNA wasn't really going anywhere and it's a pretty safe bet that he'll be making more money in WWE. WWE and TNA have had a pretty healthy working relationship over the years, this isn't another WWE vs WCW by no means seeing how they have traded talent back and forth on friendly terms since TNA's inception, granted I really don't know the details of Angle's departure though.

Phenomenal: The best of A.J. Styles volume 2 is now available on DVD. I swear this guy is amazing! Like an insane hybrid of old school Rey Mysterio jr., Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam all rolled into one! You will never see any other wrestler in any other promotion use the kind of moves that he does, Sabu and Mick Foley combined could only wish they were as crazy as this guy, he is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best reasons to watch TNA.

The DVD match listing...

April 2005 Lockdown PPV
Six Sides Of Steel
AJ Styles vs. Abyss

May 2005 Hard Justice PPV
NWA World Title Match
AJ Styles vs. Jeff Jarrett

The first-ever "iMPACT!" match on SpikeTV:
AJ Styles vs. Roderick Strong

November 2005 Genesis PPV
X Division Title Match
AJ Styles vs. Petey Williams

November 2005 "iMPACT!" Match
AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin

June 2006 Slammiversary PPV
NWA World Tag Team Title Match
AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels vs. America's Most Wanted

August 2006 Hard Justice PPV
NWA World Tag Team Title Match
AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels vs. The Latin American Exchange

September 2006 No Surrender PPV
Ultimate X Match For The Tag Team Title
AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels vs. The Latin American Exchange

November 2006 "iMPACT!" Match
For the X Championship
AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin

It also features a documentary about his life from his childhood all the way to the heights of his wrestling career in TNA.

I just read that Sabu has been released from WWE and RVD is NOT renewing his contract with them. Yes! TNA is trying to get both of them once their 90-day no-compete clause is up.

Also, a little treat. I never knew Samoa Joe wrestled a match in the WWF, let alone having the same ring name. This is from 2001:

Thumbs Up Re: The Wrestling Thread

Sounds interesting. TNA has had Sabu before, but it would be amazing if TNA could snare RVD, especially if they let him go back to his old school ECW repertoire wrestling style. It would also be excellent timing too for two reasons...

1. Jerry Lynn has just come back out of retirement in TNA.(anyone who has ever seen any of the old Jerry Lynn/RVD matches from the original ECW knows the ramifications of that )

2. With the departure of both AJ Styles and Samoa Joe from TNA's X Division into the heavyweight ranks, the X Division has gotten a little stale IMHO as of late. RVD is tailor made for that division!

As for the video, hey who knew? I didn't, and that was back when I still watched WWE too. Thanks for finding and posting it Evil GMK Goji.
