Godzilla arrives in San Francisco, menacing the Golden Gate Bridge. Police launches
try to ward off the monster to no avail. In Los Angeles, news of Godzilla's rampage
reaches the headquarters of the superhero team The Champions. The Champions are soon
on their way to San Francisco in their hypersonic Champscraft. Meanwhile, the SHIELD
helicarrier is also on its way to the stricken city. The Champions arrive, landing on
the bridge. Angel and Iceman head for shore to evacuate people from Godzilla's path
while Hercules and Black Widow remain on the bridge. Godzilla makes landfall on
Fisherman's Wharf, knocking the Angel from the sky with a random lash of his tail. Just
as the monster is about to step on the fallen superhero, Hercules rushes beneath
Godzilla's descending foot. With tremendous effort, Hercules strains to lift Godzilla's
foot. At last he succeeds, knocking the giant monster to the ground. Godzilla rises,
enraged and begins to blast San Francisco with his atomic breath. SHIELD finally arrives
and Dum-dum Dugan is less than pleased to see superheroes on the scene. Dugan tells his
men to ready their sky sleds and a new weapon called the electro-mag-nets and hopes that
the Champions will not get in SHIELD's way. In Detroit, Jimmy Woo, Dr. Takiguchi, Tamara
and Robert arrive at Stark International and meet with industrialist Tony Stark. All
available equipment and personnel are being put at Dr. Takiguchi's disposal for the
construction of his secret weapon. While Stark shows his guests the plant, young Rob
considers the efficiency of Stark's security.
Back in San Francisco, Dugan berates the Champions and tells them to stay out of
the way. As he approaches Godzilla in his sky sled, the Angel flies across his path,
forcing Dugan to ditch before the craft strikes Godzilla. By the time Dugan recovers,
godzilla is gone, submerged in the bay. Suddenly, the giant reptile resurfaces, right
beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, destroying the landmark. Iceman attacks Godzilla, but
his mutant powers are of little effect against the monster. SHIELD's 'Mantis' team moves
in with the electro-mag-nets but before they can attack Godzilla, Dugan spots hercules
in the water swimming toward the reptile. Fearing that the mag-nets will fry the superhero,
Dugan tries to stop his agents, only succeeding in spoiling their aim. The mag-nets miss
both Godzilla and Hercules. Hercules swims to the bottom of the bay and grabs a section
of the Golden Gate's rubble. He resurfaces and throws the massive section of roadway at
Godzilla's head, missing and hitting the SHIELD helicarrier instead. The crippled
helicarrier plummets from the sky, crashing into the bay. As the helicarrier's crew
evacuates the sinking airship, Dugan trades words with the Champions. Indifferent to
all, Godzilla turns away from the carnage and heads out to sea.
