Godzilla stands in the middle of Times Square. Just in time has the Fantastic Four placed the faltering time machine of Dr. Doom in the square. Now a new problem has arisen, preventing Godzilla from demolishing the city. Godzilla, disoriented by the slingshot effect of the time machine, attacks the SHIELD helicarrier Behemoth. Dum-dum Dugan orders the Behemoth to draw away from Godzilla. Quickly, he and Reed Richards decide to use the Behemoth to lure Godzilla back to the river. Slowly, Hugh Howards maneuvers the giant airship through the city, leading Godzilla along its widest streets. Realizing that Godzilla is more than even the Fantastic Four can handle, Reed Richards sends the Human Torch to fetch the Avengers. As the Behemoth leads Godzilla through Manhattan, the giant monster passes by the Daily Bugle building. Inside, editor J. Jonah Jameson grouses about the riot occurring in Times Square and why he doesn't already have a presentable story about it on his desk. Assistant editor Robertson tries to calm his boss when the sight behind Jameson stuns the man into silence. Looking inside the forty-story window is Godzilla. After the immediate shock, J. Jonah Jameson composes himself, cursing that he does not have any reporters or photographers on hand. The editor opens the window, snarling that no one is doing anything about the giant menace outside his window. Suddenly, he realizes that his angry shouting has attracted Godzilla's notice. Godzilla snorts a blast of hot air into Jameson's office, turning it into a shambles. When Robertson tells him it is safe to come out from under his desk, Jameson gives orders that every reporter on the Bugle's staff follow Godzilla and that his best freelance photographer be called at once - Peter Parker. The Human Torch, meanwhile, arrives at Avengers Mansion. It is decided that the Scarlet Witch and Captain America remain at the mansion in case some other calamity arises while the Vision, Thor, Iron Man, the Wasp and Yellowjacket accompany the Human Torch back to Manhattan. The Avengers and Fantastic Four are soon assembled on the deck of the Behemoth. The SHIELD helicarrier has lured Godzilla to the very bank of the Hudson, but it seems Godzilla has decided to go no further. The Superheroes try a frontal assault, but Godzilla's fiery breath soon forces them to back off, even the mighty Thor is forced to respect Godzilla's power. Yellowjacket and the Wasp discuss the shortcomings of the frontal assault. The two superheroes reduce themselves to the size of insects and fly unnoticed into Godzilla's ear. They use their wings to disturb Godzilla's vestibular canal, upsetting his equilibrium. Suddenly dizzy, Godzilla topples into the river. The Wasp and Yellowjacket fly away from the churning waters. A moment later, Godzilla resurfaces, roaring and enraged, bristling with the power of total destruction and the anger to unleash it.
