Godzilla rises from the East River, berserk after the attack of the Avengers. The monster makes his way back into the city, heading for the Empire State Building. The combined forces of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and SHIELD race to intercept the rampaging monster, but their best efforts are at best only delaying Godzilla's advance. Dum-dum Dugan decides that he has no choice and gives the order for the Behemoth to open fire on Godzilla with all of its guns. Trying to stop the attack, Rob Takiguchi lashes out at the Behemoth's controls. Enraged, Dugan orders Gabe Jones to take the boy back to his quarters and lock him in. Back on the street, Thor and Iron Man are busy rescuing those caught in Godzilla's wake. With two of the most powerful Avengers delayed, Godzilla reaches the Empire State Building. The mighty Thor at once heads for the towering skyscraper. Godzilla begins to push against the building's facade. Thor flys against the opposite side of the structure, the strength of the Norse god of thunder struggling against the bestial power of Godzilla for the moment, Thor manages to preserve the Empire State Building. The other Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the Behemoth all speed towards Godzilla, knowing they have only moments to save the Empire State Building and those inside. While the superheroes and SHIELD launch their all out assault on Godzilla, Rob escapes from Gabe Jones and makes his way to the deck of the Behemoth. The boy cries out to Godzilla. Hearing the familiar voice, Godzilla turns. The superheroes and SHIELD pause in the attack as Godzilla gently lifts Rob from the helicarrier's deck. Tearfully, Rob tells Godzilla that he must leave the city, leave New York and never return. Godzilla sets the boy back down on the Behemoth's deck and makes his way back to the East River. Some distance away, Spider-Man arrives on the scene, too late to fight the monster, but not too late to snap a few long-distance pictures for J. Jonah Jameson. Godzilla sinks into the river, uttering one final roar of farewell. The assembled superheroes and SHIELD agents are silent as Rob Takiguchi watches Godzilla go, realizing that where all their awesome powers failed, the simple trust between a boy and a monster has succeeded.
