Powers: Each of King Ghidorah's heads is capable of spitting short bursts of lightning-like gravity beam energy, using the force of gravity gone wild to rip apart buildings, mountains and machinery. The three-headed horror is also capable of flying at speeds of Mach 3 and causing devastating slipstreams with his passing. King Ghidorah can also create windstorms with his powerful wings. By transforming himself into a meteor-like cocoon, King Ghidorah can travel through the vacuum of outer space unharmed. Under control of the Garoga aliens, King Ghidorah demonstrated an even greater control over his gravity beams, being capable of negating the effects of gravity on objects and suspending automobiles in mid-air. Even more terrifying, King Ghidorah was able to direct each of his three beams together into a single devastating blast, a power so awful it very nearly killed even the superhero Zone Fighter.

History

King Ghidorah first appeared on Earth locked within a meteor which landed in Kurobe Gorge in Japan. A prophetess claiming to be a Martian descendent warns that the meteor contains a monster, the same fiend that wiped out all life on Mars thousands of years ago. In a blast of flame and fire, the prophetess' words are proven correct as the conflagration takes form as the awesome space demon King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah immediately set out to ravage the countryside, spreading a reign of terror across Japan. Only the combined forces of Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra could defeat the space monster, forcing King Ghidorah to retreat back into the stars.

Aliens from the newly discovered Planet X approached the people of Earth with a problem, their planet was being ravaged by a monster which they had numbered 'Zero'. Monster Zero proved to be none other than King Ghidorah. The Xians requested the use of Godzilla and Rodan to rid their world of the space monster. The saucers of the aliens transported both beasts to their world. King Ghidorah was not long in finding his old enemies, but was quickly driven off by Godzilla and Rodan. Thinking all was well, the Earth representatives left for home, leaving Godzilla and Rodan on Planet X. The Xians soon showed their true colors, however, announcing that they had always had control over King Ghidorah and now also had control over Godzilla and Rodan as well. The Xians used all three monsters to attack the people of Earth. However, a way was found to destroy the invaders, crippling them with a loud sonic frequency while employing A-cycle light rays to free all three monsters from alien domination. Godzilla and Rodan wasted no time in renewing their struggle with King Ghidorah, grappling with the fiend until all three pitched over the side of a cliff and into the sea. Only King Ghidorah emerged, fleeing back into the depths of space.

When the alien Kilaaks attempted to conquer the Earth by gaining control of the monsters on Monster Island, their plan was finally foiled by a daring raid on the Kilaaks Moon base. Now the monsters were under Earthling control. The Kilaaks still had one card up their sleeve, however and brought King Ghidorah to defend them from the Monsterland menagerie. King Ghidorah fought valiantly against overwhelming odds, battling Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Anguirus, Kumonga, Gorosaurus and Minya. The space demon could not prevail against so many foes however. Surrounded by enemies, King Ghidorah was apparently beaten to death by Godzilla and his allies, the ground sinking and claiming the space monster's body.

King Ghidorah later appeared as the alley of the space monster Gigan, summoned to Earth by the cockroach aliens of the Nebula M Spacehunter in their bid to give the world perfect peace. The two space monsters attacked Tokyo, but were soon confronted by Godzilla and Anguirus. The monsters lured their enemies back to the aliens' base, and their laser-equipped Godzilla Tower. The resulting trap nearly succeeded in killing Godzilla, only the timely destruction of the Godzilla Tower by the JSDF and some civilians enabled Godzilla to survive long enough to regain his strength. Disoriented by the sudden lack of the aliens' guidance tapes, King Ghidorah and Gigan were out-matched by Godzilla and Anguirus and both space monsters fled back into the vacuum of space.

King Ghidorah was last seen as the ultimate weapon of the evil Garoga aliens. Dispatched to Earth, King Ghidorah proved too powerful for the superhero Zone Fighter to destroy and Zone Fighter attempted to lure King Ghidorah into the depths of space, hopefully making it impossible for him to find his way back. King Ghidorah did not follow Zone Fighter far enough, however, and circled back to the Earth to resume his assault. Zone Fighter again engaged the space demon in battle, and finally succeeded in enraging King Ghidorah enough that the monster followed the superhero to the surface of an isolated moon. There, the battle began anew, and King Ghidorah nearly succeeded in killing Zone Fighter with a concentrated blast of all three of his gravity beams. Zone Fighter survived however, and was able to severely injury King Ghidorah with his own attack, breaking the Garoga aliens' control over him and causing King Ghidorah to again retreat into the depths of space.

Combat Style:

King Ghidorah displays a very sadistic streak, attacking weaker opponents before concentrating on stronger ones. He is remorseless and unrelenting in his assault, employing his powerful gravity beams at every opportunity to wear down his foes. King Ghidorah appears supremely confident in his own strength, and utterly contemptuous of other forms of life. This explains why he attacked eleven monsters without hesitation and did not attempt to retreat until escape was far beyond him. This contempt seems to extend to his allies as well. When fighting alongside Gigan, King Ghidorah was content to largely allow the cyborg to do all of the fighting while the three-headed monster sat back and savored the suffering of Godzilla. When Gigan later accidentally struck King Ghidorah, Ghidorah was quick to retaliate in kind, displaying his unforgiving nature.
