Godzilla vs. Gargantua

Story by Reuben Bercovitch

One of the monsters from War of the Gargantuas returns to menace Japan, and only Godzilla can stop the creature's rampage.

History:

One of many ideas tossed around during the 'Dark Age' of Godzilla, that period in the late 1970's and early 1980's when no new Godzilla films were produced. UPA Productions' chief Henry G. Saperstein, who had been involved in the creation of Frankenstein Conquers the World, Godzilla vs Monster Zero, and War of the Gargantuas was interested in bringing one of the Gargantuas back to the screen and pitting him against Toho's reliable icon Godzilla. Saperstein's friend, Reuben Bercovitch was to pen a treatment of the tale. A budget of $6 million was supposedly set (an outrageous figure for a Godzilla film of this time period), but despite the American involvement, the film went nowhere and Godzilla's career hiatus continued.
