'Godzilla vs. Redmoon' Concept Art by Brandon Waggle

Godzilla vs. Redmoon

Screenplay written by Tetsuo Kanoshiro and Inoue Mitsuda

A strange monster rises from the surface of the Moon. Dubbed Redmoon, the beast flies toward Earth. Meanwhile, another giant monster appears on Habu Island in the Okinawa chain. This creature is named Erabus. The JSDF lures both creatures to a deserted locale in the hopes that they will destroy each other. Instead, the two monsters turn out to be male and female, and mate. The female monster, Erabus gives birth to a creature named Hafun and the parents become docile.

The family tranquility is brought to an end when an evil entrepreneur kidnaps Hafun, intending to exhibit the creature. The baby monster is accidentally killed in the course of its capture and transport. The enraged Redmoon and Erabus take their anger out on the cities of Okinawa, until Godzilla at last arrives to subdue the rampaging monsters.

History:

As a part of the year-long celebration of Tsuburaya Productions' 10th Anniversary, in 1972 the studio approached Toho for permission to use Godzilla in an upcoming film project, hoping to employ the company founder Eiji Tsuburaya's greatest creation in a project for his own studio. Approval from Toho was given and a staff was assembled for the 1972 film. Noboru Tsuburaya and Toyowaki Awa were tapped as producers, Shokei Tojo was set as director and special effects were to be handled by Kazuo Sakawa. A Godzilla suit was to be loaned out by Toho, while the enemy monsters were apparently going to be redressed and disguised creatures from 1972's Tsuburaya Productions' kiddie film Diagoro vs Goliath. The reasons for the project's abandonment are not known.
