Invasion of Monster Island is the second supplement for Firefly Games' Monster Island battle game. As such, it requires both of the previous Monster Island books to use. Invasion of Monster Island adds in a third force to contend with in Monster Island battles: the alien invaders of the Delok race. In true Toho fashion, the Deloks are presented as merciless conquerors determined to destroy the earth and humanity, using battle robots, flying saucers and mind-controlled kaiju to bring our world to its knees. These alien weapons and forces are detailed in depth and present some very interesting tactical challenges. The aliens cannot bring land troops into play unless they have first established 'teleport pads' to 'beam' them down into, which are represented by crop circles placed along with the other terrain at the start of the game or else created by scout saucers during the battle. The aliens are also given the ability to employ their mind control devices to impose their will on kaiju, though such control is limited and always of a dubious duration. The Deloks can also garner some extra points to create their force at the start of the game by accepting additional objectives, such as abducting human personnel or capturing specific buildings.
In addition to the alien forces, new powers are once again offered to enhance kaiju, ranging from psionic shields to protect from alien mind rays, to slippery skin and slow-acting venom. Human forces are further enhanced with fighter planes, space-faring assault shuttles and mobile SAM launchers. There are also new rules given for buying an automatic alliance between players as a power, avoiding the need to negotiate an alliance in the heat of battle. New wonder weapons and new actions human and alien units can take are also presented, as well as some new combat environments, ranging from the vacuum of space to the surface of Mars and the moon. New scenarios specific to the alien attack are presented along with rules to help co-ordinate them into a linked campaign. Rounding out the book are several new monsters, ranging from new Delok creatures to a MechaKajiro employed by the UN Science Alert Corps.
Invasion of Monster Island is another must have supplement for the entertaining Monster Island game. It adds a whole new level to the game and the new powers for the monsters ensure that the supplement will be of use to even those who only employ the initial setting of kaiju brawls on Monster Island. Invasion of Monster Island is offered as an e-book on sale from RPG Now. At only $5, it is an incredibly affordable addition to anyone's Monster Island game.
